Johnny Manziel Being Evaluated For Possible Concussion

Dec 30, 2015 2:36 PM

Johnny Manziel is being evaluated for a possible concussion.

Mike Pettine told reporters that Manziel will start if he's cleared despite a Christmas eve video that appeared to show Manziel getting festive with a can of Four Loko, footage Pettine called "certainly a concern."

Austin Davis would make his second start of the season for the Cleveland Browns if Manziel is unable to play with Terrelle Pryor also a possibility.

Manziel Holds No Grudges Against Pettine, Wants Him Back In 2016

Dec 24, 2015 11:48 AM

Johnny Manziel and Mike Pettine have had a tenuous relationship this season with his off-field incidents.

But Manziel would like the Cleveland Browns to retain Pettine in the offseason.

"Absolutely (I respect him),'' Manziel. "He's our head coach. I have a ton of respect for him and like I said earlier in the year when everything happened, whether I liked the situation or not and liked the outcome of what happened, I had a part in that too and I had to take responsibility and own up to that. It was on nobody else but me.''

Titans, Browns, Chargers In Three-Team Race For First Overall Pick

Dec 21, 2015 12:09 AM

The Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and San Diego Chargers are tied for the worst record in the NFL at 3-10.

One of these three teams are likely to end up with the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

The first tiebreaker for the draft order is strength of schedule, with the team that played the weakest schedule picking first. That favors the Titans, who play in the AFC South and therefore have an easy schedule.

Cleveland has the toughest remaining schedule of the three teams.

Here’s how the current draft order looks, heading into Sunday:

1. Titans, 3-10, .471 strength of schedule
2. Browns, 3-10, .512
3. Chargers, 3-10, .521
4. Ravens, 4-9, .482
5. Cowboys, 4-9, .547*
6. 49ers, 4-9, .547*
7. Lions, 4-9, .571
8. Dolphins, 5-8, .467
9. Jaguars, 5-8, .471
10. Saints 5-8, .538
11. Bears 5-8, .541
12. Buccaneers 6-8, .454
13. Rams, 6-8, .530

Bruce Arians Was Snubbed By Bears, Eagles, Browns, Chargers

Dec 16, 2015 1:23 PM

Bruce Arians should have been one of the strongest head coaching candidates in 2013.

Arians was coming off a strong year of leading the Indianapolis Colts on an interim basis while Chuck Pagano was undergoing cancer treatment.

“While I was in Chicago, Philadelphia, Cleveland and San Diego cancelled the interviews that we had set up,” Arians said, via Jimmy Kempski of PhillyVoice.com. “I never got an answer [why they canceled], other than ‘Thanks, but no thanks. That day I was at the Bears, three of the teams decided to go in different directions. I was probably more disappointed because I thought I had the Bears job, and it was like a double-whammy.”

Arians eventually ended up with the Arizona Cardinals and he's become one of the NFL's best coaches.

The Browns hired Rob Chudzinski, fired him after one season, and are now 3-10 in Mike Pettine’s second season. The Bears hired Marc Trestman, fired him after two seasons, and are now 5-8 in their first year with John Fox. The Chargers hired Mike McCoy, who is now 3-10 in his third season. The Eagles hired Chip Kelly, who is now 6-7 in his third season.

Browns To Start Austin Davis Over Johnny Manziel

Dec 2, 2015 7:39 PM

Austin Davis will start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday over Johnny Manziel.

Josh McCown was placed on injured reserve Wednesday and will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his collarbone.

Davis nearly led the Browns to a win over the Ravens after replacing McCown in the fourth quarter.

"Austin took advantage of his opportunity on Monday night. He was prepared, played well and put us in position to win," Mike Pettine said in a statement. "He's been great in the quarterback room all season and he has earned the right to start on Sunday. We expect him to play well."

Davis, who will be making his ninth career start, becomes the 24th different quarterback to start for the Browns since 1999. He started eight games for the St. Louis Rams in 2014, throwing for 2,001 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Terrelle Pryor will sign with the Cleveland Browns.

Pryor spent all summer with the Browns but received just 17 snaps during the preseason.

When he was waived by the Browns in early September, Pryor told The Plain Dealer: "This will be a mistake by them."

Pryor was signed as receiver but he could potentially double as an emergency quarterback.
