Browns Clinch Playoff Berth

Dec 29, 2023 9:27 AM

The Cleveland Browns defeated the New York Jets on Thursday night to clinch a playoff berth.

Cleveland's 37-20 victory earned them their first postseason appearance since 2020 and only their third since returning to the NFL in 1999.

"Pretty special night for this organization," Kevin Stefanski said. "Pretty special night for the fans out there."

Joe Flacco Happy With Browns, No Ill Will Toward Jets

Dec 27, 2023 9:10 AM

Joe Flacco has no hard feelings against the New York Jets, who didn't re-sign him after last season and also didn't bring him back after Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in this season's opener.

Flacco and the Cleveland Browns will host the Jets on Thursday night with a chance to clinch a postseason berth.

"I enjoyed my time while I was there, and it is what it is," said Flacco, who spent parts of three seasons with the Jets. "I'm happy to be where I am, that's for sure."

Flacco has started the last four games for the Browns, winning three. Cleveland (10-5) is all alone at the 5 seed in the AFC playoff picture.

Over the last four weeks, Flacco has thrown for more yards (1,307) than any other NFL quarterback.

Amari Cooper Sets Browns' Receiving Record

Dec 24, 2023 8:03 PM

All fourth quarter, Amari Cooper was campaigning to get back in the game. It wasn't to break the Cleveland Browns' franchise record, but rather to top 300 receiving yards in a game.

He didn't quite reach 300. Instead, Cooper had to settle for 265 yards -- a new Browns single-game record.

"It was a lot of time left, man. A lot of food on the plate there," said Cooper, who sat most of the fourth quarter with 252 receiving yards and a 36-7 lead. "So yeah, I was anxious a little bit, for sure."

Joe Flacco Can Earn $4.05M For Wins With Browns

Dec 15, 2023 8:31 AM

The Cleveland Browns signed Joe Flacco to a one-year contract on Thursday, ending his spell on the practice squad.

Flacco's deal includes $4.05 million in incentives based on winning, according to a source.

The veteran quarterback is set to make $75,000 for each of the remaining four regular-season games he wins this season, per the source. If Cleveland makes the postseason, Flacco would also make $250,000 for a wild-card win, $500,000 for a divisional round win, $1 million for an AFC Championship Game win and $2 million for a Super Bowl win.

The Browns (8-5) currently are all alone as the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoff picture.

Browns Want Joe Flacco To Start For Rest Of Season

Dec 11, 2023 11:19 AM

Kevin Stefanski wants Joe Flacco to be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns for the remainder of the season.

Flacco will revert to the practice squad on Monday, but he'll presumably sign back to Cleveland's active roster.

"I'm hearing that first here," Flacco said when told of Stefanski's hope. "Listen, just so grateful to have the opportunity a couple weeks ago. And you never know where things are going to take you. And we don't know what lies ahead at this point either. But man, it's been a blast. It's been so much fun to be back out in that field."

Flacco had 311 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in the Browns' 31-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14.

"I love the game," he said. "That's the first reason. And the second reason is I have a lot of people around me that allow me to believe in myself. I still feel like I can play the game, so that's the main thing is, you know, I feel like I owe it to myself. I put in all this work. I'm 38 years old. I got the rest of my life ahead of me, hopefully, and you know, I'm going to play football as long as I can. It's a special thing. And like I said, I think the biggest thing with that is that I have people around me that also believe me and that want me to do it. They also believe I can do it, should do it. I think I'm obviously very fortunate because of that."

Browns To Start Joe Flacco At QB

Dec 2, 2023 1:05 AM

The Cleveland Browns will start their fourth different quarterback this season, as veteran passer Joe Flacco will take over Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

Flacco, 38, replaces rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who sustained a concussion in last weekend's loss to the Denver Broncos and remains in the protocol. Cleveland officially ruled out Thompson-Robinson on Friday, clearing the way for Flacco to make the start.
