Duke Johnson: DeShone Kizer's Confidence Is Shot

Dec 21, 2017 8:46 AM

DeShone Kizer leads the NFL in interceptions and has been benched, which Duke Johnson admits is wearing on the rookie quarterback.

"He's a young kid and he's still learning and he has all the ability," Johnson said. "I mean, his confidence is probably shot, but that's where his teammates and his family, his friends come in. They keep him up."

When asked, Kizer said Johnson is a little off base.

"No, not at all," he said. "My confidence will always remain high."

Jon Dorsey: Previous Browns' Front Office Didn't Get Real Players

Dec 14, 2017 12:08 PM

John Dorsey was sharply critical of the previous front office of the Cleveland Browns.

"You know what? You've got to get a guy like that (Hue Jackson) players,'' Dorsey told the "Really Big Show'' with Aaron Goldhammer on WKNR 850, the home of the Browns today. "And you know what? I'll come straight out with it. The guys who were here before, that system, they didn't get real players."

Dorsey replaced Sashi Brown as Cleveland's general manager last week.

"As Bill Parcells would always say, 'you are your record' and you know what? There it is, so that's the truth-teller in this thing,'' said Dorsey. "And I'm going to do my darnedest to get Hue (Jackson) players.

"And that's all I can ask for, and that's all I'm going to do. I like the man.''

Infographic: Five Teams Rank In Top-10 In Offense, Defense DVOA

Dec 13, 2017 12:29 PM

The NFL has five teams ranking in the top-10 in DVOA on both Offense and Defense after Week 14. In an indication of how much turnover there's been in parts of the NFL, none of those five teams (Rams, Eagles, Vikings, Saints and Chargers) made the playoffs in 2016.

The Chiefs, Cowboys, Steelers, Falcons and Patriots also rank in the top-10 on offense, while the Jaguars, Broncos, Panthers, Ravens and Cardinals rank in the top-10 on defense.

The Seahawks, who have consistently been one of the NFL's top teams in DVOA during the Russell Wilson era, are just outside the top-10 in both categories.

Browns' Top Priority Is Finding Quarterback

Dec 9, 2017 10:28 AM

Jimmy Haslam has made John Dorsey's top priority as general manager of the Cleveland Browns to find their quarterback.

"Let me say it this way: The Cleveland Browns are not going to be successful until we get a quarterback," Haslam said. "And we obviously have DeShone (Kizer) and two other quarterbacks on the roster. We're going to look at free agency and the draft. As it was mentioned earlier, we have a substantial amount of capital. We're going to do whatever it takes to find the quarterback we need to be successful.

"That will be John's No. 1 priority. We're going to do whatever it takes to get a QB."

The Browns have passed on opportunities to draft Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson in successive drafts.

"Let's sit down as a group [at the end of the season]," Dorsey said of Cleveland's QB quagmire. "This is a quarterback-driven league. We all know that and we all know, to succeed and to go a little bit farther and farther and farther, you need one of those guys. So I think it's an evaluation period that's going to take a little bit to put a plan together.

"The draft is four and a half months away. Free agency is three months away. We have ample time to make a plan here."

Browns Fire Sashi Brown As GM

Dec 7, 2017 10:59 AM

The Cleveland Browns have fired Sashi Brown as general manager.

Brown replaced Ray Farmer as GM on January 3, 2016.

The Browns passed on opportunities to draft both Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson during his tenure as GM.

"We have great appreciation and gratitude for Sashi’s commitment and leadership to our organization but believe transitioning to someone with strong experience and success in drafting and building consistently winning football teams is critical to the future of the Cleveland Browns,” Jimmy Haslam said. “Today we informed Sashi that we were going in a new direction. The 2018 draft and offseason is pivotal for our franchise, we need to ensure that we maximize our opportunity for success; with our picks, free agency and building our roster.
