Alfred Morris Expects Redskins To Run More Option Plays

Jun 10, 2014 4:41 AM

Alfred Morris expects the Washington Redskins to run more option plays as the season moves forward.

"We’re just slowly getting back in the swing of things," said Morris. "I’m pretty sure we’ll get back to running it more. But that’s not even the bulk of our offense. That was just an addition to the offense that we already have. Even not running it as much, we weren’t successful that much the first week but last week we got going a little bit. … I’m pretty sure we’ll get back to throwing more and more in there once we work out the kinks."

Morris believes Robert Griffin III is making progress in working back from offseason knee surgery.

Garcon Challenged To Race After Questioning Griffin's Speed

May 17, 2014 10:36 PM

Pierre Garcon has been challenged to a race by Robert Griffin III.

Garcon believes Griffin isn't as fast as he was last season.

"Robert obviously can't run as fast as he did last year because of his knee brace and his knee," Garcon told ESPN980 radio. "But it's the same offense, to be honest with you. It's nothing different. It hasn't changed at all."

"There's no knee issue," Griffin said. "I love my receiver. If he wants to race, then we can race."

Griffin Doesn't Feel Pressured By Peterson's Quick Recovery

Jul 19, 2014 1:07 PM

Robert Griffin III has been trying to make a quick recovery from tearing his ACL and MCL last season, similar to Adrian Peterson.

But Griffin says Peterson's remarkable comeback isn't adding any pressure to his efforts.

"I don't think so at all. Adrian is a phenomenal athlete, and in Minnesota they've done a great job with him," Griffin said. "Adrian, he's a running back, it's a different position.

"I don't feel any pressure from the success that he had. I can't even remember how his season started off last year, either. All that stuff gets forgotten at the end of the day."

Griffin has rushed just nine times for 25 yards.

Eagles Win Kelly's Debut 33-27 Over Redskins (+8.4 TC, +16 TRC)

May 25, 2014 9:07 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Redskins by a final score of 33-27 in Chip Kelly's NFL debut. The final score was deceiving as the Eagles had a 33-7 lead late into the third quarter as they imposed their will upon Washington by playing at a pace the NFL has never seen before.

The Eagles had a +8.4 advantage in The Trench Counter, averaging 0.9 more yards per pass and 1.3 more yards per rush. The Redskins ran 77 total plays and had a +16 in Total Rushes/Completions.

Michael Vick went 15-fo-25 for 203 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing nine times for 54 yards and a touchdown. LeSean McCoy rushed 31 times for 184 yards and a touchdown while DeSean Jackson caught seven balls for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Robert Griffin III went 30-for-49 for 329 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in his first game back from major knee surgery. Griffin was hesitant in the first half and the Redskins' offense struggled to sustain drives, or even not turn the ball over.

Alfred Morris had 12 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown, but fumbled on the Redskins' first series and muffed a pitch from Griffin that led to an Eagles' safety.

Be The GM: Aaron Rodgers Or Robert Griffin III

Oct 23, 2014 3:38 AM

It is not at all surprising that Aaron Rodgers and Robert Griffin III advanced out of the first two rounds to reach the Elite 8 of our 'Be The GM' series.

In the five seasons Rodgers has been the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, he has ranked sixth, fourth, third, first and first in passer rating and now is the career-leader at 104.9.

Rodgers was a highly accurate quarterback at Cal, but his lack of arm strength caused him to slide all the way to the Packers at 24th in the 2005 NFL Draft. Similar to Tom Brady, Rodgers significantly improved his physical profile once arriving in the NFL to make the type of throws that the way he reads the field allows possible.

Rodgers has a 52-26 record as a starter and that has come with a rotating cast of receivers and often a patchwork offensive line. Rodgers has mastered the West Coast offense in a way that would make Bill Walsh proud and he is truly a blend between Joe Montana and Steve Young given his playmaking abilities both in the pocket and in the open field with his running.

Griffin exceeded the most bullish expectations during his rookie season, completing 258 of 393 pass attempts for a passer rating of 102.4 with 20 touchdowns coming against just five interceptions. Griffin also carried the ball 120 times for 815 yards and seven touchdowns, becoming the type of dual-threat quarterback that makes it seem like you're watching a video game.

Griffin had a 9-6 record as a starter as he led the Redskins back into the playoffs.

The only issue with Griffin, who won't turn 24 until February, is his long-term health. Griffin tore his ACL and LCL last season and we will need to see if he regains his prior form physically and whether he can make adjustments to his style of play to avoid injuries without compromising the aspects of his game that make him great.
