Oct 31, 2014 7:01 AM

Redskins fullback Mike Sellers has apologized for throwing the American flag to the ground during lineup introductions on Friday. "I meant no disrespect," Sellers told the Associated Press. He added that he's aware of proper conduct when it comes to the flag and should have known better, having grown up in an Army family. "I made a mistake by setting it down the way I did, and I apologize if I offended anybody out there," Sellers said. "I was asked to bring it out, last minute, didn't know who to give it to. I got hyped up and put the flag down. It was in the heat of the moment."

Haynesworth On Brady Hit: It Wasn't Like I Was Hitting Gisele

May 16, 2014 10:31 PM

Albert Haynesworth laid a solid hit on Tom Brady during Friday's preseason game at FedEx Field. "I mean, it wasn't like I was hitting Gisele or something; he's the quarterback. It was good, it was fine," Haynesworth said. "I mean, I was trying to tackle him, but I wasn't trying to hurt him. I'm not that type of a player, you know? I'm actually a big Tom Brady fan. I'm a big Patriots fan. I've always like the Patriots, I've always liked Coach Belichick. I just like the way [Brady] is."

Hall Will Cover Slot Receiver In Washington

May 16, 2014 9:56 PM

The Redskins will use cornerback DeAngelo Hall to cover slot receivers this season. "When people are putting four wide receivers out there, you've got to be able to match up," secondary coach Jerry Gray told the Washington Post. "If you can't match up, you've got to make the quarterback throw where you want him to throw. You're either going to blitz him or match up and play coverage. Those are the two things you've got to do." Shawn Springs, who left for the Patriots in free agency, occupied the role for Washington last season. "We lost Shawn, and he's a good player, but you can't sit there and sulk. You've got to get somebody else ready, and DeAngelo is going to assume that role. Most teams are going to be their guy in there," Gray added. "They're going to put their guy that's going to be the center of attention. The offense is going to center around that guy first before [the quarterback] looks outside. You're going to put your 'good,' I'm going to put my 'good.' That's pretty much what you do. You can always help the outside guys. But a lot of teams put their [best] guy in there, so they can have all that space in the middle of the field to work on. So I'm going to match my 'good' with your 'good.' "

Zorn: It Will Be Tough To Defend Vick

Feb 16, 2014 3:20 AM

The NFC East will suddenly have to worry about defending against a dynamic offensive weapon in Michael Vick when they face the Eagles. On Friday, Redskins coach Jim Zorn discussed Vick landing in Philadelphia. "It will be very difficult," Zorn said in a press release. "It will be interesting to see how he works in with the Eagles. Unfortunately, he is in our division. He has been out for a couple of years but a guy like will be so fired up. I am excited he is able to start progressing back in. He is with an excellent football coach and will get to learn from some tremendous veteran leaders."

Feb 12, 2014 12:31 PM

The Redskins gave running back Ladell Betts a misspelled jersey for Thursday's preseason game. The jersey read "Bettis" as in the former Steelers great. "I didn't know," Betts said after the game, according to the Washington Post. "I don't think anybody noticed it until about midway through the first quarter. I had no idea. Somebody came up to me with a jersey and said, 'We need to change your jersey,' and I was like, 'What's wrong?' I thought maybe my jersey was ripped." "Your name's wrong," someone told him. "Actually, I do like Jerome Bettis, but I don't prefer to have his name on my back," Betts added. "I wasn't upset or anything. I think the equipment people felt bad, but I wasn't mad at them."

Haynesworth's Injury 'Not Serious'

Feb 14, 2014 11:00 PM

Albert Haynesworth was held out of Washington's abbreviated practice on Monday a day after an injection in his left knee. Both Haynesworth and Redskins coach Jim Zorn denied that the injury is something that should be worried about long-term. "He started out very well, and he's continuing to show he's going to be a force definitely on our team and in this league," Zorn told the Washington Times. "I'm absolutely pleased with where he's at right now. We're just trying to keep his knee, which is sore from all the work we're doing, and make sure we don't have to shut him down completely for more than a day or two." Haynesworth had injections at the start of camp the past two summers while with the Titans. "[This series of injections] gets you through two-a-days basically," Zorn said. "It doesn't stay in there forever. It helps cushion your knee if you have any abrasions or any grinding going on. During the season, the battle is on Sunday, but we're not hitting completely during the week. Now we're hitting every day."
