The Redskins will use cornerback DeAngelo Hall to cover slot receivers this season. "When people are putting four wide receivers out there, you've got to be able to match up," secondary coach Jerry Gray told the Washington Post. "If you can't match up, you've got to make the quarterback throw where you want him to throw. You're either going to blitz him or match up and play coverage. Those are the two things you've got to do." Shawn Springs, who left for the Patriots in free agency, occupied the role for Washington last season. "We lost Shawn, and he's a good player, but you can't sit there and sulk. You've got to get somebody else ready, and DeAngelo is going to assume that role. Most teams are going to be their guy in there," Gray added. "They're going to put their guy that's going to be the center of attention. The offense is going to center around that guy first before [the quarterback] looks outside. You're going to put your 'good,' I'm going to put my 'good.' That's pretty much what you do. You can always help the outside guys. But a lot of teams put their [best] guy in there, so they can have all that space in the middle of the field to work on. So I'm going to match my 'good' with your 'good.' "
