Tom Brady was not blindsided by Bruce Arians' decision to step down as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Brady "was informed Bruce Arians planned to step down and Todd Bowles would succeed him as head coach either the same day or a day after the quarterback announced he was ending his retirement," according to a report.

The report also states that Brady's decision to come back and play after briefly retiring had nothing to do with Arians' departure.

Arians told ESPN he doesn't see it as a retirement. "No, moving to the front office," he said in a text message. "I'm still working."

His new job title will be senior football consultant.

Arians went 31-18 (.633) in three seasons in Tampa Bay.

Brady, in an Instagram post Wednesday night, said Arians was a major part of his decision to play for Tampa Bay and that he'll be "forever grateful."

"You are an incredible man and coach, and it was a privilege to play for you," Brady wrote. "You are a true NFL legend and pioneer for all the work you have done to make the league more diverse and inclusive. Smart, tough, and loyal are a few of the words to describe your style. I will always remember the conversations we had when you recruited me two years ago and all of the things we discussed came true."

In his statement, Arians said that he "really began thinking about my personal transition plan earlier this offseason."

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed Ronald Jones to a one-year contract.

Jones, 24, was a second-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018. 

The Chiefs needed to add a running back to pair with Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon are unrestricted free agents.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached an agreement on a three-year, $21 million deal with Leonard Fournette, according to sources.

The deal includes $11 million guaranteed and it could reach $24 million with incentives.

Fournette was the fourth overall pick in 2017 by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are re-signing Carlton Davis to a three-year, $45 million contract, according to a source.

The cornerback's contract also includes $2.5 million for playtime/per-game bonuses.

The Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to a four-year, $40 million deal with Alex Cappa, according to a report.

Cappa was a third-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to a three-year deal with center Ryan Jensen.

The deal is worth $39 million and includes $23 million in guaranteed money, according to a source.

Jensen, who turns 31 in May, signed as a free agent with the Buccaneers in 2018.

Tom Brady is returning as the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next season, he announced on Twitter Sunday.

"These past two months I've realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands," Brady wrote. "That time will come. But it's not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I'm coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business LFG"

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed the franchise tag on Chris Godwin.

Godwin suffered a torn ACL in Week 15 and finished the season with 98 receptions for 1,103 yards.

Last year, the Bucs could not reach an agreement on a new contract with Godwin, instead placing the franchise tag, worth $16 million, on him. 

Bruce Arians and Jason Licht will leave the door open for a possible return for Tom Brady, who will remain under contract despite retiring.

With that said, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are preparing to move on without him this offseason.

"That door is never closed. Whenever Tom wants to come back, he's back. If Tom wants to come back, we'll have plenty of money for him," Arians said.

"I think with a Tom Brady, I personally never want to completely close the door," Licht said. "Now, I don't have any information that suggests that he is going to come back. I'm very good friends with him. We talk, [but] we haven't talked about that. Don't want to apply any pressure in that regard right now. But he's Tom Brady. If a Tom Brady wants to come back, we'd welcome him back."
