Bruce Arians Would Be Shocked If Tom Brady Comes Out Of Retirement

Feb 21, 2022 8:42 AM

Tom Brady retired from football nearly three weeks ago, but rumors persist that he'll eventually return to play.

Bruce Arians is convinced the 44-year-old quarterback is not planning a return.

"That would shock me," Arians told Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. "And he let us know in time to do the free agency like we've done in the past, that's why I don't see it happening.

"I don't know if there's really a story there."

Deshaun Watson Evaluating Trade Options With Bucs, Vikings On List

Feb 17, 2022 4:59 PM

Deshaun Watson has begun evaluating potential landing spots with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings on his list.

Watson has a no trade clause in his contract and will look for the right blend of offensive system, coaching, talent and the chance to win.

Watson preferred the Miami Dolphins at last year's trade deadline, but no move was consummated. The Dolphins hired Mike McDaniel to replace Brian Flores and appear to be committed to Tua Tagovailoa.

Watson's defense of 22 civil cases alleging sexual assault and/or inappropriate behavior during massage sessions remains unresolved.

Buccaneers Leaving Door Open For Tom Brady To Return

Feb 14, 2022 9:37 AM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are leaving the door open for Tom Brady to return should he change his mind about retirement. If Brady decides to remain retired, the Buccaneers will explore a trade for Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson.

The Bucs paid Brady over $44 million in 2021 as part of a contract that was renegotiated after their Super Bowl win last February.

Wilson, 33, reiterated in a SiriusXM interview on Friday that his "hope and goal is to be back (in Seattle) and keep winning there" and his relationship is closer than ever with Pete Carroll, who speaks with Wilson regularly.

Tom Brady On Coming Out Of Retirement: Never Say Never

Feb 10, 2022 8:37 AM

Tom Brady announced his retirement last week, but has already opened the door on a potential return.

“You know, I’m just gonna take things as they come,” Brady said. “I think that’s the best way to put it and I don’t think anything, you know, you never say never. At the same time I know that I’m very, I feel very good about my decision. I don’t know how I’ll feel six months from now, [inaudible] change, it most likely won’t. But I try to make the best possible decision I can in the moment, which I did this last week. And, again, I think it’s not looking to reverse course, I’m definitely not looking to do that. But in the same time I think you have to be realistic that you never know what challenges there are gonna be in life. Again, I loved playing. I’m looking forward to doing things other than playing.”

Shaq Barrett: Buccaneers 'Still Going To Be Contenders' Without Brady

Feb 6, 2022 11:10 PM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still championship contenders even without Tom Brady, according to Shaq Barrett.

"We most definitely are still going to be contenders," the linebacker said. "We've still got a lot of guys on the team who are hungry to have a taste of being in the playoffs, to have a taste of winning a Super Bowl. And I know the front office guys, they loved having a taste of the success that we had. So if anything, it's a replication. Whoever it takes, we're going to get those guys, and then the guys are going to make it happen, whatever we have to do. The offense has got to pick it up, the defense has got to pick it up, the special teams – whatever it is, we're going to make it happen."

Buccaneers Will 'Go Down Every Avenue' To Replace Tom Brady

Feb 2, 2022 8:35 AM

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers must find a starting quarterback after Tom Brady's retirement announcement.

Jason Licht said the Buccaneers will exhaust all options, including handing the reigns to second-round pick Kyle Trask.

"We'll have to go down every avenue," Licht said. "It's a little bit different landscape than it was a couple years ago with the quarterbacks that were available in free agency. So, we'll have to go down every avenue, we'll turn over every stone. I hate to use clichés like that, but we will. I think our roster is in better position than we were two years ago in terms of the young talent we have, the experience they have at this point, what we've gone through in the last couple years. So I'm excited about that."

In 2021, the Buccaneers had Brady, Trask, Blaine Gabbert and Ryan Griffin at quarterback.

Tom Brady Officially Announces Retirement

Feb 2, 2022 8:39 AM

Tom Brady has officially announced his retirement from the NFL, saying Tuesday in an Instagram post that he is "not going to make that competitive commitment anymore."

"I have always believed the sport of football is an 'all-in' proposition -- if a 100% competitive commitment isn't there, you won't succeed, and success is what I love so much about our game," Brady said in his statement on Instagram. "There is a physical, mental and emotional challenge EVERY single day that has allowed me to maximize my highest potential. And I have tried my very best these past 22 years. There are no shortcuts to success on the field or in life.

"This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore. I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention. I've done a lot of reflecting the past week and have asked myself difficult questions. And I am so proud of what we have achieved. My teammates, coaches, fellow competitors, and fans deserve 100% of me, but right now, it's best I leave the field of play to the next generation of dedicated and committed athletes."

Brady won seven Super Bowls and appeared in three others in defeat.

Brady won NFL MVP in 2007, 2010 and 2017.
