Tom Brady Says He's Undecided On Retirement

Feb 1, 2022 10:18 AM

Tom Brady publicly said he is not yet decided on whether he will retire or continue playing in 2022.

"Sometimes it takes some time to really evaluate how you feel and what you want to do," Brady said on the latest episode of his "Let's Go!" podcast with Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray, released Monday. "I think when the time's right I'll be ready to make a decision one way or another, just like I said last week."

Asked if he has a timeline, Brady said: "I don't know. I'll know when the time is right. Like I've always said, I'm very blessed to play as long as I have. As things have gone on in the later parts of my career ... there's a lot of interest in when I'm going to stop playing. I understand that. When I know, I'll know. When I don't know, I don't know. I'm not going to race to some conclusion about that."

ESPN reported on Saturday that Brady has already decided to retire, but that he would not update the NFL's postseason games.

Don Yee, his agent, said in a statement Saturday sent out to media members that "I understand the advance speculation about Tom's future. Without getting into the accuracy or inaccuracy of what's being reported, Tom will be the only person to express his plans with complete accuracy. He knows the realities of the football business and planning calendar as well as anybody, so that should be soon."

Report: Tom Brady Will Retire After 22 Seasons, 7 Super Bowls

Jan 31, 2022 8:10 AM

Tom Brady has decided to retire after 22 seasons in the NFL and seven Super Bowl titles.

When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were eliminated from the playoffs, Brady knew it was likely his final act as a football player, sources said. In the days since, he has spent time digesting that mindset and is preparing his retirement announcement along with the next chapter of his life and career, sources said.

Brady's decision to retire is based on several factors, including family and health. Although it's less significant, Brady also recognizes that the Buccaneers are likely to undergo significant roster turnover.

Brady wanted to avoid a farewell season and wanted his decision to be made without much drama leading up to it.

It is unknown when Brady will formalize his plans to retire, but that move will be made with consideration to not upstage the NFL's postseason games, including the Super Bowl. Brady's company, TB12 Sports, sent a tweet that appeared to confirm his decision but later deleted the post.

Report: Tom Brady Could Announce Retirement In Coming Days

Jan 29, 2022 10:09 PM

Tom Brady is preparing to retire from the NFL with a formal announcement expected shortly, sources tell Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Brady will likely reveal his future plans in the coming days and doesn't want to upstage the Championship Games or the Super Bowl, but he also wants to allow the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to readjust their plans for 2022.

"He is very respectful of the game, and has great respect for the Tampa organization and all they have done for him," said one source close to the quarterback. "He understands the ramifications that this decision would have on the team moving forward, and he would never want to do anything to upstage the playoffs. Whatever he decides, I'd expect he announces it soon."

Just before the 2021 season began, Brady said, “Hopefully, I’ll be here a long time. For many years.”

Antonio Brown Plans To Pursue Legal Action Against Buccaneers

Jan 26, 2022 8:33 AM

Antonio Brown and his attorney, Sean Burstyn, plan to pursue legal action against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for releasing the wide receiver after he said he was too injured to continue playing against the New York Jets earlier this month.

Appearing on HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel," Burstyn said they will pursue money for Brown's ankle surgery and money they feel he is owed by the NFL's collective bargaining agreement.

They are looking into a possible civil lawsuit in the form of defamation for the Buccaneers claiming Brown had a spontaneous mental health episode.

Family Will Play Big Role In Tom Brady's Decision On Future

Jan 25, 2022 7:51 AM

Tom Brady says family will play a substantial role in determining whether he will return to play next season.

He also said that if this is it, he could walk away "proud and satisfied," even though the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost 30-27 when they were eliminated in the playoffs Sunday by the Los Angeles Rams.

"I think as I've gotten older, I think the best part is, is football is extremely important in my life, and it means a lot to me, and I care a lot about what we're trying to accomplish as a team and I care a lot about my teammates," Brady said on his "Let's Go!" podcast with Jim Gray. "The biggest difference now that I'm older is I have kids now, too, you know, and I care about them a lot as well. They've been my biggest supporters. My wife is my biggest supporter. It pains her to see me get hit out there. And she deserves what she needs from me as a husband, and my kids deserve what they need from me as a dad.

"I'm gonna spend some time with them and give them what they need, 'cause they've really been giving me what I need the last six months to do what I love to do. I said this a few years ago, it's what relationships are all about. It's not always what I want. It's what we want as a family. And I'm gonna spend a lot of time with them and figure out in the future what's next."

Bruce Arians Says Buccaneers Will Be 'Reloading,' Not Rebuilding

Jan 26, 2022 8:46 AM

Bruce Arians said Monday that he doesn't see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rebuilding but instead "reloading" after unsuccessfully defending their Super Bowl title.

Arians said Tampa Bay's priority, like last year, will be to re-sign their own in free agency but acknowledged that re-signing all 22 starters on offense and defense again will be difficult.

"Our [priority] in free agency will be our guys -- see how many that we can get back and then build a team from there," Arians said Monday. "I always look forward to that part of it, and then the draft. Each year is so different and so new. Last year, to get everybody back was amazing. I doubt we can do it all again this year, but we're sure going to give it our best."

Tom Brady Taking 2022 Decision 'One Day At A Time'

Jan 25, 2022 7:59 AM

Tom Brady said he's not yet ready to begin contemplating whether he will return for the 2022 season following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' loss in the Divisional Round to the Los Angeles Rams.

"Truthfully guys, I'm thinking about this game," said Brady. "I'm not thinking about anything past five minutes from now."

Brady plans to take a few weeks to assess how he feels mentally and physically, while also gauging his family desires.

"I haven't put a lot of thought into it, so you know, we will just take it day by day and kind of see where we are at," said Brady, who has one year left on his contract.
