Tampa Bay's Morris: 'I Will Never Fire Myself'

Aug 20, 2014 9:39 PM

Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris believes strongly in the program he has built within the organization. In the midst of a nine-game losing streak, Morris doesn't think he should be the scapegoat. "I think I answered this question a couple weeks ago ... I will never fire myself," Morris said. "You don't go from being a coach of a year candidate to being the worst coach in the league to get fired within a year. It's about us. It's a little bit of everything." What has been the most frustrating part for Morris has been a recent stretch of one-sided losses. "No question ... bingo," Morris said. "But it happens because people go outside of the box and try to make plays that are just not there in order to get that football team, or basketball team, or hockey team to win. You've got to go play within the system and make the plays that technique and opportunity allow you to make. Once you got those things, it's just like the year before."

Rams, Buccaneers Won't Make Coaching Change This Week

Aug 20, 2014 10:05 PM

The Rams and Buccaneers don't plan to make any coaching changes this week, according to sources. St. Louis (2-12) and Tampa Bay (4-10) have struggled despite entering the season with labels as up-and-coming teams with young starting quarterbacks. If any coaching changes are made, at this point, they would be made at the end of the season.

Winslow Missing Out On Big Bonus

Nov 4, 2014 8:06 AM

Buccaneers tight end Kellen Winslow is making $8.259 million in base salary this season, but he's going to miss out on a $4.45 million bonus. Winslow's contract contains a huge incentive clause that will not be met. The contract was signed after Winslow was traded to Tampa Bay in 2009 and it stipulated that Winslow would be paid the hefty bonus at the end of the 2011 season if certain criteria were met. Winslow needed to record 80 receptions in each season from 2009 through 2011 and be selected to the Pro Bowl each year. Winslow has done neither. He had 77 receptions in 2009 and 66 in 2010. He has 58 through 13 games this season.

Buccaneers Planned To Fire Morris On Monday

Nov 4, 2014 1:53 AM

The Buccaneers planned to fire head coach Raheem Morris on Monday, but he was retained because of the coaching staff's lack of depth. The team didn't believe the coaching staff was "big enough" to function without Morris and lacked a suitable interim candidate. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported that Morris, whose Buccaneers are 4-9 and riding a seven-game losing streak, is under review and in danger of being fired. He'll have to win at least one game to have a chance to retain his job, according to league sources.

Police Report: Blount Led Attack On Fan

Aug 21, 2014 12:26 AM

According to a Tampa police report, the victim of a severe beating claims Buccaneers running back LeGarrette Blount was "the leader" of the assault and directed the two men who attacked him. The report said Blount refused to cooperate with the investigation of a possible felony battery, which took place in the parking garage of his apartment complex. Blount, 25, was not charged in the Sept. 11 incident, nor was he accused of any direct violence. Blount's attorney, Ryan Morgan, said his client "didn't do anything. There was an altercation, but it didn't involve LeGarrette. He wasn't ring-leading anything. But what LeGarrette does do is play in the NFL. "When this guy found out who he was," Morgan continued, his attorney called the Buccaneers and asked for $95,000 in compensation and warned that if that was not forthcoming, the attorney would go public. Morgan said the request was rejected.
