Eagles Targeting College Grads For Roster

Sep 1, 2014 2:28 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles have sought out players who have earned their college degrees. Six of the seven players the Eagles selected are on track to graduate.

"When you look at people who are successful in any profession, it always goes back to college graduates," said Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. "We found NFL players are no different."

When Beau Allen met with most teams, he only received a question or two about academics.

Kelly began peppering him with questions about why he chose his major (business), what his hardest class was and why ("I'm not much of an accounting guy," he said. "I always struggle with it") and how he learned in the classroom.

Philadelphia's philosophy of pursuing graduates was born when Roseman and Kelly each discovered that teams with the most college graduates are overwhelmingly successful.

Of the three teams with the most fifth-year seniors drafted, two of them met in February's Super Bowl: the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos. The Jacksonville Jaguars, who went 4-12, took the fewest.

Kelly believes a degree is more than a proof of intelligence, showing instead a level of commitment.

Seahawks Send Memo To Agents Recruiting Undrafted Players

Nov 22, 2014 5:37 PM

The Seattle Seahawks recently sent agents a 12-page pamphlet that demonstrates their willingness to discard their own draft picks in favor of undrafted free agents.

Eight current Seahawks came to the team as undrafted free agents and “contributed to the 2013 season.” Those players include wide receivers Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse and Ricardo Lockette.

The Seahawks report that 15 of the 68 undrafted rookies signed since 2010 made the team’s active roster. That 22-percent success rate is eighth in the NFL. The 49ers are shown to have 11 of their 67 undrafted rookies (16 percent) make their roster.

Seahawks Only See Terrelle Pryor As Quarterback

Oct 29, 2014 6:12 PM

The Seattle Seahawks have no plans on trying to convert Terrelle Pryor into a position other than quarterback.

“Right now, he's learning the quarterback position and [playing another spot] is not even an option,'' general manager John Schneider said.

Pryor was acquired from the Oakland Raiders for a seventh round pick.

“Just to be able to acquire a player of that caliber in the seventh round,'' Schneider said. “What our seventh round looks like right now, we felt the value was definitely there and it was worth it."
