Marshawn Lynch Could Retire In Offseason

Dec 15, 2014 4:18 PM

Marshawn Lynch is contemplating retiring at the end of the current season, according to sources familiar with his thinking.

Lynch faces an uncertain future with the Seattle Seahawks.

Several sources have previously said that Lynch is not expected to be back with the Seahawks next season due to his $5 million salary and the front office's desire to rework the locker room around Russell Wilson.

If Tom Cable gets a head coaching job, Lynch could follow him to that destination due to the strong relationship they've built.

Lynch told two teammates last year that he might retire if the Seahawks were to win the Super Bowl.

Lynch has missed just one game over the past four seasons, but he's battled back pain throughout.

Sherman: 49ers' Fans Mediocre This Time

Nov 29, 2014 5:15 PM

Richard Sherman was asked if there was anything "mediocre" about the San Francisco 49ers in the Seattle Seahawks' first game against them since last season's NFC Championship Game.

"Yeah, their fans," he said, per The (Tacoma, Washington) News Tribune. "Their fans. Their fans were. Their fans, you know, threw a few jabs. And then someone of them threw a glass bottle at the end, as we were jogging in."

Sherman  also mentioned the Niners fans in his midfield, turkey-filled interview with NBC's Michele Tafoya directly after the game, during which he said 49ers' fans were being "vulgar."

"You know you never have to resort to name-calling and some of the things they said," Sherman continued at his press conference. "It really just help you appreciate your own fans. It helps you appreciate the 12th Man and how classy an organization we have and how classy our fans are -- and how they stay through the whole game regardless of the outcome."

Seahawks' Defense Recaptures Swagger After Earl Thomas' Outburst

Nov 25, 2014 12:34 PM

Earl Thomas helped the Seattle Seahawks regain their focus and swagger when he had an outburst at several defensive linemen in a walkthrough on Thursday.

Thomas noticed several of his teammates sharing sunflower seeds in a way that suggested a lack of concentration.

"It started with some remarks, and it turned into something beautiful, man," Thomas said in a private moment at his locker after Seattle (7-4) handed Arizona (9-2) its first defeat since Oct. 5. "I wasn't thinking clearly. I kinda challenged some guys. Maybe it was a little harsh, but I apologized, and it led to something great -- us understanding each other more, and love and togetherness and playing for our brothers.

"I've got to work on my delivery. Some of my leadership skills ... I think I keep it real sometimes too much. But that's how I grow. Whenever I make boneheaded decisions, I learn from it, man. And I think that's a big reason why we played the way we did today."

"Oh, (Earl) said some good stuff at the walkthrough, and he didn't apologize," said All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, Thomas' fellow Legion of Boom mainstay. "It was very specific, more than it's been in a long time."

Sherman wouldn't name the specific individuals to whom Thomas was directing his displeasure, but the cornerback did say, "The ones he was talking to ... they played a hell of a game today."

Marshawn Lynch Fined $100k For Not Talking To Media

Nov 20, 2014 1:26 PM

Marshawn Lynch has been fined $50,000 for violating the NFL's media policy.

The NFL will also collect $50,000 on a fine imposed during the 2013 season that was held in abeyance in anticipation of future cooperation.

The NFL media policy mandates that players must be available to the media during the practice week at the team facility and in the locker room following all games.

Lynch quickly dressed and left the team's locker room after Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, calmly walking away when reporters asked to speak to him. Lynch later did a phone interview with one reporter -- NFL.com's Michael Silver -- after leaving the locker room.

According to the media policy, "Star players, or other players with unusually heavy media demands, must be available to the media that regularly cover their teams at least once during the practice week in addition to their required postgame media availability."

"I thought I covered my bases by doing an interview after the game -- what I was told to do. If it wasn't good enough, then I don't know what to say," Lynch told ESPN's Josina Anderson after receiving news of the fine. "That's it. Now I understand it wasn't good enough for the league, or for whoever is fining me."

Lynch will appeal the fine.

Seahawks Not Interested In Signing Randy Moss, Terrell Owens

Dec 4, 2014 8:09 PM

Pete Carroll said on Wednesday that the Seattle Seahawks don't have interest in signing Randy Moss.

Moss said last week that the Seahawks reached out to him during the 2013 season.

Terrell Owens spent the 2012 preseason with the Seahawks and has reached out to Carroll recently.

“I won’t say that I didn’t get a call from T.O., though,” Carroll said.

Zach Miller Out For Season With Ankle Injury

Nov 14, 2014 4:48 PM

Zach Miller will miss the rest of the season for the Seattle Seahawks with an ankle injury that has bothered him since late September.

Miller underwent a scope after Week 3 and is expected to undergo a second procedure, according to Carroll. The coach pointed to Luke Willson, Cooper Helfet and the recently signed Tony Moeaki as candidates to pick up the slack in Miller's absence.

Brandon Mebane Out For Season With Hamstring Injury

Nov 11, 2014 6:37 PM

Brandon Mebane is out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.

Mebane has possibly been the Seattle Seahawks' best player on defense this season. Richard Sherman said Mebane was having a Pro-Bowl type year as a nose tackle.

"He's got a really legit hamstring pull," Pete Carroll said. "He's out for a while, but we'll find out more later."

Carroll Recognizes Seahawks' Offense Better With Quicker Tempo

Nov 9, 2014 3:04 PM

The Seattle Seahawks' offense has been inconsistent except at the end of the first half and the end of the game when they're forced to pick up the tempo.

“It’s something that we’ve recognized,” Pete Carroll said on Sports Radio KJR earlier this week. “We are better when our tempo is really good, so that is a point of emphasis. We see how well we’ve done when we’re going at a good pace.

"We seem to be more effective then. We go in and out of that. It’s kind of a modified 2-minute drill. We’re just going faster.”

Carroll was asked why they don't try a hurry-up style more often.

“It does take us away from the plan of running the football like we like to,” Carroll said. “We are out of the formula we really like. So there’s a little bit of a give-and-take there.

“You throw the ball a little more when you do it. So we’re mixing it in, and hopefully, as we start the second half, we’ll see if our [faster] tempo can enhance the way we perform on offense.”
