49ers To Pursue Colin Kaepernick Trade In Offseason

Nov 23, 2015 11:41 AM

The San Francisco 49ers will pursue trade scenarios involving Colin Kaepernick in the offseason.

Kaepernick will see respected specialist Dr. Peter Millett in Vail, Colorado, on Tuesday, and the expectation is that he'll have surgery to repair a fully torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder that day.

Kaepernick's $11.9 million in 2016 injury-guaranteed salary becomes fully guaranteed on April 1.

If he's not on the team next year, it'll hit them with $7 million in dead money against the salary cap.

Colin Kaepernick Placed On Season-Ending Injured Reserve

Nov 22, 2015 12:48 PM

Colin Kaepernick has been placed on injured reserve by the San Francisco 49ers, ending his season and possibly his career with the franchise.

Kaepernick, who was on the injury report Friday, told the 49ers that he wanted to undergo surgery on his left, non-throwing shoulder, prompting the team to put him on IR.

There have been reports of Kaepernick dealing with a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Kaepernick on Friday told the Sacramento Bee he initially suffered the injury in a Week 4 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Kaepernick was not listed on an injury report until after the Niners' Oct. 22 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, in which he was sacked six times.

It was in that offseason when Kaepernick signed a $126 million contract extension that was lauded at the time as being very team friendly. While he is due to make $14.3 million in 2016, $16.9 million in 2017, $17.4 million in 2018 and $19.2 million in 2019, per ESPN Stats & Information, the guarantees do not vest until April 1 of each calendar year.

Patrick Willis, Anthony Davis Considering 2016 Returns To 49ers

Nov 13, 2015 11:15 AM

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report said on a video posted Thursday morning that he spoke to a source who told him Patrick Willis is “considering a comeback.”

“Now, he’s not definitely going to do it,” Cole said. “He’s still dealing with a toe issue.”

A source close to Willis told CSNBayArea.com on Thursday, “I have not heard anything to that effect from Patrick.”

The San Francisco 49ers appear to know nothing about Willis having any second thoughts, either.

Anthony Davis announced in June he was stepping away from the NFL “for a year or so” to allow his brain and body some time to heal. He has since hinted on social media that he plans to return next season.

Blaine Gabbert To Start Next Game For 49ers

Nov 10, 2015 11:46 AM

Blaine Gabbert will remain the starter for the San Francisco 49ers after their bye when they play the Seattle Seahawks.

Colin Kaepernick lost his job following the 49ers' 27-6 loss at the St. Louis Rams.

“I met with the guys and let them know we’re moving forward with the way we were – with Blaine in that seat,” Tomsula said on “Murph & Mac” on KNBR-680 AM, the 49ers’ flagship station. “No big things. Colin has handled himself unbelievably, OK? And I think people know how I feel about Colin Kaepernick –- what I think of him and how much I think of him.

“I do believe in the person. And he has handled himself just awesome here and with his teammates. That part of it, you couldn’t ask for any better. OK? So that’s my feelings.”

Reggie Bush To Sue City Of St. Louis For Slippery Surface

Nov 11, 2015 9:50 AM

Reggie Bush is preparing to sue the city of St. Louis for gross negligence following a season-ending MCL tear he suffered on the Rams' slippery concrete sidelines during Week 8.

At the end of a punt return against the Rams, Bush was forced out of bound and tried to slow himself down as he approached the wall that separates the fans from the field. But in the Edward Jones Dome, the turf ends not far outside the sidelines and instead gives way to slippery concrete.

Bush slipped on the concrete and slid into the wall. The injury ended Bush's season and possibly his career.

49ers Not Naming Blaine Gabbert Starter Despite Win

Nov 9, 2015 12:41 PM

The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Atlanta Falcons with Blaine Gabbert starting at quarterback for Colin Kaepernick.

Jim Tomsula isn't ready to name a starter for Week 11 when the 49ers play the Seattle Seahawks.

“Gabbert was our starter today,” Tomsula said. “And I don’t have a comment past that.”

Tomsula suggested Kaepernick needed a break.

“Confidence, determination and then great leadership,” fullback Bruce Miller said of Gabbert. “You can feel it in the huddle with all of our guys.”
