Steelers Acquire Vance McDonald From 49ers

Aug 29, 2017 12:53 PM

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday that they have traded tight end Vance McDonald to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for an undisclosed draft choice. McDonald must pass a physical for the trade to be executed.

“We would like to thank Vance for his contributions to this organization on the field and in the community over the last four seasons,” said John Lynch. “Although I have only known Vance for a short time, I quickly learned that he and his wife, Kendi, have been tremendous representatives for the team in the community and their service to others is quite commendable. We wish the McDonald family all the best as they move on to a new opportunity in Pittsburgh."

McDonald (6-4, 267) was originally drafted by the 49ers in the second round (55th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. In four seasons with San Francisco (2013-16), he appeared in 48 games (30 starts) and registered 64 receptions for 866 yards (13.5 average) and seven touchdowns.

Martavis Bryant: Colts DB 'Tried To Hurt Me'

Aug 28, 2017 9:03 AM

Martavis Bryant says he took an "intentional" late hit from Indianapolis Colts safety Matthias Farley while on the ground during Saturday's preseason game.

Bryant was discussing how he bulked up in the offseason when he referenced a screen play early in the second quarter that resulted in a gang tackle. Vontae Davis brought Bryant down by his right ankle, and with his left knee down, Farley flew in for an upper-body hit.

"I feel better about my body and my ability on the field. I don't have to worry about taking so many injuries from different plays like yesterday where he tried to hurt me," Bryant said. "Just making sure my body feels good and I stay in shape."

Asked about the nature of the hit, Bryant said it was "definitely intentional."

"I was already on the ground. It is what it is," Bryant said. "My foot was already bent. ... [Farley] just came in and hit me."

Le'Veon Bell Expected To Miss Steelers' Third Preseason Game

Aug 21, 2017 8:35 AM

Le'Veon Bell is expected to remain away from the Pittsburgh Steelers for the third week of the preseason, according to source.

The Steelers, however, expect Bell to report shortly thereafter.

The two sides tried to hash out a long-term deal before the July 17 deadline expired for players with franchise tags to sign extensions. Bell skipped training camp and hasn't signed his $12.1 million franchise tender.

Steelers Thought They Had Long-Term Deal Done With Le'Veon Bell

Aug 19, 2017 7:23 PM

The Pittsburgh Steelers expected to reach an agreement with Le'Veon Bell on a long-term contract.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Friday that Bell nixed an offer "at the last minute," even though team officials thought they had come to terms with his agent on a contract paying more than $12 million annually over five years.

Bell's agent, Adisa Bakari, said he and his client never had any agreement with Steelers. "All stories to contrary are false," Bakari told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Bell skipped training camp and hasn't signed his $12.1 million franchise tender.

Bell told ESPN after the deadline expired that "I feel I'm worth more than what they are offering me," but that he would play a full season in 2017. Bell could report to the team as early as next week, though the team has maintained it isn't sure exactly when he will return.

Kevin Colbert: Le'Veon Bell Hurting Himself With Holdout

Aug 11, 2017 9:43 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers, not surprisingly, aren't happy that Le'Veon Bell is skipping training camp.

The Steelers can't fine Bell because he hasn't signed his franchise tender.

Bell is set to make $12.1 million under the terms of the franchise tag and the deadline to sign a multi-year deal passed last month.

"My feeling is there's nothing to be gained by a holdout," Kevin Colbert told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "The situation won't change, it can't really change from our part on a long-term deal. So it hurts him not to be here. It hurts him because he's not working with his teammates, he's not getting the conditioning work that he's going to need to have a great 2017 season. And he's not working with his teammates to get acclimated to the offense — every year it's different."

Martavis Bryant Expected To Soon Be Reinstated

Aug 9, 2017 4:24 PM

Martavis Bryant could be reinstated by the NFL within the next few days.

Bryant is simply "waiting for the doctors and the counselors, people who saw him, to hand in their letters, get the paperwork cleared with the NFL, have the league process that, and then make him officially conditionally reinstated."

Bryant missed the entire 2016 season due to a violation of the league's policy on substances of abuse.

Bryant will give the Pittsburgh Steelers depth at wide receiver behind Antonio Brown.
