Ben Roethlisberger Acknowledges Monday Likely Final Home Game

Dec 31, 2021 11:55 AM

Ben Roethlisberger acknowledged that Monday's game against the Cleveland Browns will likely be his final home game with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"Looking at the bigger picture, I would say all signs are pointing to this could be it -- regular season, that is," Roethlisberger said Thursday. "I know we still have a chance to potentially get a playoff game there if things fall our way and we take care of business and things have to happen. In the grand scheme of things, in terms of regular seasons, signs are pointing that way that this could be it."

Roethlisberger returned to the Steelers in 2021 after taking a pay reduction.

Mike Tomlin Doesn't Regret Steelers Trading Melvin Ingram To Chiefs

Dec 22, 2021 9:55 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers don't regret trading Melvin Ingram to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mike Tomlin says the trade benefited the Steelers even if they are now thin at linebacker. The Steelers and Chiefs play in Week 16.

"We didn't weigh their circumstances," Tomlin said. "We weighed our circumstances. Not only the tangible element of our circumstances, but the intangible quality that makes us a team. When we moved him, we had an opportunity to get value for him, and so that was entertaining and interesting to us.

"But also, to be quite honest with you and blunt, Melvin no longer wanted to be here. And for us, we prefer volunteers as opposed to hostages. And we believe that's a formula that allows us to come together in ways that you can't measure. To do the things we were able to do last week, to smile collectively in the face of adversity and do what's required to get out of the stadium with necessary wins. That's more of a function of us and the things that we value and less about Kansas City, the things that they needed or the prospects of playing them later in the season."

T.J. Watt Sets Steelers' Single-Season Sacks Record

Dec 20, 2021 8:14 AM

T.J. Watt set the Pittsburgh Steelers' franchise record for sacks in a single season during Sunday's 19-13 win over the Tennessee Titans.

James Harrison previously set the franchise record.

"T.J., congratulations on breaking my record and becoming the Steelers' new single-season sack-record holder," Harrison said in a video posted to social media. "But why stop there? Go on ahead and chase down that NFL single-season sack record and become the new holder of that, too."

Watt leads the NFL with 17 sacks this season. With 66.5 career sacks, Watt has the third-most sacks by a player in his first five seasons since 1982. Only Reggie White (81) and Watt's older brother, J.J. Watt (74.5), have more.

Ben Roethlisberger Mum On Future After Victory

Dec 7, 2021 12:14 PM

Ben Roethlisberger wouldn't discuss his future after the Pittsburgh Steelers' big win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

According to a report, the quarterback is quietly telling former teammates and people within the organization that he expects this to be his final season with the Steelers.

"I haven't told everybody that, no," Roethlisberger said. "Honestly, we just got done with this game, I'm exhausted. We play in a couple hours, it feels like. That's my focus. My focus is on Minnesota and what we have to do to get ready.

"I'll address any of that stuff after the season. I've always been a one-game-at-a-time, one-season-at-a-time person. I'm going to stay that way."

Mike Tomlin said he wasn't concerned about a Roethlisberger farewell tour distracting the Steelers' locker room through the final five regular season games.

"There's nothing to manage," Tomlin said. "Ben doesn't allow it to become an issue. Ben has been pretty solid in terms of his expressions that he's singularly focused on what it is that we're doing now.

"He'll deal with those things on the other side of this journey, and I'm with him on it."

Mike Tomlin Promises Changes For Struggling Steelers

Dec 1, 2021 4:47 PM

Mike Tomlin says changes are coming for the Pittsburgh Steelers after they dropped to 5-5-1 with Sunday's blowout loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

"We just stunk the place up," Tomlin said. "When you play the way that we played and the score is as lopsided as it is, that's just the reality of it.

"... What you can't do is continue to do the things that you've been doing and expect a different result. We're open to some schematic changes. We're open to some personnel changes, obviously. They won't be drastic in nature, probably more subtle in nature, but hopefully significant. Significant in a positive way."

Tomlin said the changes will come in both what the Steelers do and who they do it with.
