Jets To Start Michael Vick In Week 9

Oct 29, 2014 12:58 AM

The New York Jets will start Michael Vick at quarterback this Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Vick replaced Geno Smith this past week after the second-year quarterback threw three interceptions in the first quarter.

"This is not looking long term, this is about the immediate," Ryan said. "My focus is on Kansas City and finding a way to get a win. That's why this decision was made."

Vick, who signed a one-year contract last offseason, isn't considered part of the Jets' future.

"I think it's a great opportunity," said Vick, adding that he wishes it didn't have to be against Andy Reid. "Any time you get named to be the starter, it's a great thing. I think you have to relish it, but also take it extremely serious, and understand what's at stake and what needs to be done."

Percy Harvin Looking To Take Game To 'Next Level' With Jets

Oct 26, 2014 5:40 PM

Percy Harvin is excited for a fresh start with the New York Jets after being traded by the Seattle Seahawks in controversial fashion.

"Whatever they say happened in the Seahawks' locker room, it's all in the past," Harvin said.

Harvin will have a clean slate with the Jets, Rex Ryan said.

"I really put it all behind me once I got here," Harvin said. "What people are saying right now, it doesn't mean much to me. My teammates have embraced me, my brothers here, so I'm looking more forward. I'm looking forward to my time here as a New York Jet."

Harvin has primarily been used in the slot or as a gadget receiver, but he said he would like to do more and he believes he has the speed and route-running ability to be an outside receiver.

"I'm looking to take my game to the next level," Harvin said.

Idzik: Percy Harvin Trade 'Potential Coup' For Jets

Oct 27, 2014 2:51 PM

While Percy Harvin wore out his welcome with the Seattle Seahawks, the New York Jets are excited to add a player of his caliber.

"This could be a potential coup for the New York Jets," general manager John Idzik said.

At 1-6, the Jets are non-contenders, but Idzik insisted "it's not too late."

Idzik said the Jets did "a ton of background work" on Harvin, who has a history of altercations with teammates and coaches. Idzik, a former Seahawks executive, said his familiarity with his former team was an "advantage" as they performed due diligence.

"It's about looking forward, understanding what may have happened in the past -- I wasn't there, he was," Idzik said. "That's really in the rear-view mirror. It's about learning from your experiences, like everybody else, and we're looking forward."
