Jets To Start Geno Smith In Week 13

Nov 28, 2014 6:25 PM

The New York Jets will start Geno Smith in Week 13 after giving Michael Vick the nod in three starts.

The feeling close to the team is that general manager John Idzik insisted that Rex Ryan start Smith, his underperforming former second-round pick.

After a Week 8 blowout loss to the Bills that dropped them to 1-7, the Jets benched Smith, who threw three straight interceptions in the game.

Vick went 1-2 as the Jets' starter

Jets Likely To Wait Until Offseason To Fire Rex Ryan

Nov 26, 2014 11:34 PM

Rex Ryan figures to be coaching his final games with the New York Jets as they currently sit with a 2-9 record.

“I’m not worried about it,’’ Ryan insisted. “One thing I know, unless it changes drastically, I will be the head coach here for the next five weeks. That’s what I know and I’m going to go about my job like I always do.’’

The Jets are unlikely to fire Ryan before the season is over.

Asked if he’s had any discussions with owner Woody Johnson or general manager John Idzik that would give him the impression he would not be fired before the end of the season, Ryan said, “No … I mean look, Woody Johnson hired me. We haven’t had any of those conversations. I’m just coaching. That’s all I can do.

“It’s never been about me; it’s about the team and that’s the way it’s going to be. I just know I’m going to be the coach here the next five weeks and my team’s going to get everything I’ve got.’’
