Jets Fire Coach Rex Ryan, GM John Idzik

Dec 30, 2014 10:37 AM

Coach Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik were fired early Monday morning, the first casualties of the Jets' fourth straight year out of the playoffs.

Owner Woody Johnson made the decisive, if not surprising, moves after his team stumbled to 4-12, its worst record since 2007. Johnson recently called it the most difficult of his 15 seasons as the head of the organization.

Jets owner Woody Johnson is now prepared to move swiftly Monday and fire GM John Idzik and head coach Rex Ryan, according to league sources.

Johnson is expected to remove any doubt about Ryan's fate, even though a source earlier suggested the owner could wait for a new general manager to make the call on the popular coach.

Instead, the owner has decided an immediate house cleaning is necessary for both Ryan and Idzik, sources said Sunday night.

Geno Smith Believes Jets' Coaching Change Could Be Good

Dec 23, 2014 11:31 AM

Geno Smith said change could be a good thing for the New York Jets.

Smith, who went through a coaching change at West Virginia, said "it's all about what you make of it. I think the toughest part about it is not being able to continue to play for the same coach, the same guy that you learned to love, you invest so much in, and you believe (in) them.

"To reset and re-adjust is a tough thing to do, but we're professionals and we have to do it," Smith continued. "A change could be good for us all, so if it happens -- when it happens -- then we'll see."

Other Jets publicly supported the idea of Rex Ryan returning in 2015.

Michael Vick Has Paid Down $18M Debt Owed To Creditors

Dec 18, 2014 10:36 AM

Less than seven years after going to jail for his part in a dogfighting ring, Michael Vick is weeks away from paying off the majority of the nearly $18 million he owed his creditors.

In the five-year period (2010 to 2014) in which he agreed to go on a restrictive budget to pay back his creditors, Vick earned more than $49 million during four seasons with the Philadelphia and one with the New York Jets.

As part of the plan to pay off his creditors, Vick stuck to living on a $300,000 budget, because more than 50 percent of what he was making went toward taxes and legal fees.

"I had never been on a budget before, so I had to pay attention to everything that I was doing," Vick said. "Now I realize that I don't need certain things I bought back in the day, like a new boat."

Vick says when he goes back to his normal lifestyle after the end of the month, he won't spend money like he used to.

Percy Harvin Hopes To Remain With Jets Long-Term

Dec 13, 2014 11:31 PM

Percy Harvin hopes to remain with the New York Jets next season.

"I feel at home here. I'm comfortable with all the players," Harvin said Friday, per the New York Post. "I like the vibe around here."

With a $10.5 million tab in 2015 and no guaranteed money past this year, the Jets must decide whether they want to pay Harvin or cut him loose.

Harvin has been a bigger part of the Jets' offense than he was with the Seattle Seahawks.
