Ryan Still Confident Without Revis

Oct 2, 2014 3:12 AM

Jets coach Rex Ryan is still confident about his team's chances even without All-Pro cornerback Darrell Revis. "We can get it done," Ryan said. "We've proved it all through the years. That's all I know is great defenses. That's what we stand for. It's not about one guy or one or two guys. ... This is what we do. We're a team defense. That's why I know our defense will play great. There's not a question in my mind that we'll play great. We play great team defense." Monday was Day 30 of the Revis holdout.

Jets Cut Laveranues Coles

Nov 30, 2014 5:14 AM

The Jets released veteran wide receiver Laveranues Coles on Sunday. Coles can choose to retire or make $50,000 weekly. New York coach Rex Ryan said there's "a real possibility" they will try to re-sign the veteran receiver after Week 1. By not putting him on the opening-day roster, the Jets will avoid having to pay his entire base salary -- $855,000. They can re-sign him and pay him on a game-to-game basis -- $50,294. "He did an outstanding job for us," Ryan said Sunday. "He's a leader. He came in here, and I know he knows the system. He's tougher than nails, a great teammate." However, Coles sounds like he might be done. "I think I'm done," Coles, 32, told The Star-Ledger of Newark. "I don't want to become one of those journeyman football players. I don't need the money. [Ryan] said I was doing well and they want to bring me back after the first game, but I don't know. I don't think that's something I want to do."

Jets outside linebacker Calvin Pace injured his right foot in the third quarter of the team's preseason loss to the Redskins on Friday night. "He's got something with his foot," coach Rex Ryan said. "I would expect him to be out a few weeks." Pace was seen walking around the Jets' locker room wearing a walking boot after the game. In 2009, he recorded eight sacks in 12 regular season games.

Revis Not In New 'Hard Knocks'

Oct 2, 2014 2:19 AM

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis won't appear on camera in Episode 3 of HBO's "Hard Knocks," which airs Wednesday night. On Tuesday, when Tim Cowlishaw of the Dallas Morning News tweeted that Revis had taped an interview that would air Wednesday, it fueled speculation that the Pro Bowl cornerback was going to appear on "Hard Knocks," perhaps delivering a bombshell announcement related to his holdout. Steve Sabol, the president of NFL Films, says that's not happening.

Sanchez Will Wear Knee Brace

Oct 3, 2014 5:21 AM

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez will wear a protective brace on his surgically repaired left knee "probably forever" to guard against future injuries. The second-year quarterback suffered a scare in the preseason game against Carolina last Saturday. "I really want to wear it," Sanchez said sarcastically. "No, we've been joking back and forth. I think I kind of lucked out the other night." Sanchez had the patella-stabilizing ligament in his left knee repaired in February and had been wearing a sleeve over it during camp. He has worn a brace in most games since dislocating his knee cap before his junior season at USC. "It's not even worth having other problems," Sanchez said. "My knee feels great. It's just a precautionary thing."

Revis reportedly is seeking $162 million over 10 years, while the Jets have offered $122 million over the same number of years.
