Jets Biding Time On Adalius Thomas

Sep 7, 2014 2:44 PM

Rex Ryan addressed the Adalius Thomas issue at his Friday afternoon press conference, saying "we'll always listen to anything" while adding that it's a "safe" assumption the Jets would wait for the market to establish itself before reaching out to the two-time Pro Bowl linebacker. Thomas spent his first seven seasons in Baltimore, where Ryan served as the Ravens' defensive coordinator before taking over the Jets. "If you're just going to take a defensive end, or an inside linebacker, or an outside linebacker, then he's not going to be quite as effective," Ryan said of Thomas. "If you can use him all over the place as a defensive end, an inside linebacker, and outside backer, a safety, he's special. We'll see. "I think with him we'll end up first in the league in defense, and without him we'll end up first in the league in defense. If we get him, great. (But) I'm not worried about him, he's not on our team."

It is "doubtful right now" that the Jets will pursue Adalius Thomas, according to a source. Thomas was released by the Patriots on Monday. The recent addition of Jason Taylor, who plays a similar role to Thomas, is likely the reason the Jets aren't interested.

Faneca 'Upset' Over Being Cut

Sep 19, 2014 5:14 AM

Alan Faneca is upset that the Jets decided to cut him. Faneca got a call from New York head coach Rex Ryan on Friday night informing him of the decision. "I'm not sure what I am," Faneca said Sunday. "I'm not necessarily angry, but I did not want things to end the way they did. I'm upset with their decision. I think they made the decision that they felt was for the future of the team. "That's fine, this is a business, but everyone wants to leave on their own terms. I'll move on and find another opportunity to play. My family and I had a great time being part of the Jets and the community and will always look at our time here and the friends we made as a great time in our lives."

Jets Release Alan Faneca

Aug 7, 2014 4:11 PM

The Jets have released veteran Alan Faneca. New York released the veteran Pro Bowl left guard Saturday, parting ways with one of the leaders of a unit that paved the way for the league's top-rushing offense. "He gave us two incredible years, but along with Woody [Johnson], Rex and I, our job is to make the hard decision, not necessarily the easy one," general manager Mike Tannenbaum said. "With Alan, we just felt it was time to move on."

Jets Will Move Gholston To Defensive End

Jan 19, 2014 1:36 AM

The Jets will move former first-round pick Vernon Gholston from outside linebacker to defensive end. Gholston was the sixth overall pick back in 2008. "That's going to be something that we look forward to," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "So, that's why I never felt that it was a need to jump up and take a defensive end (in the draft) when our plan all along was to put Vernon in a position where he can be successful. I think we did that."
