Jason Pierre-Paul Can't Recall Last Sack With Index Finger

Sep 17, 2015 4:26 PM

Photos have emerged of Jason Pierre-Paul showing his absent index finger, a bandaged middle finger and a thumb missing a chunk that does not appear significant.

The middle finger that is wrapped had a procedure done on it less than two weeks ago, on Sept. 4.

Pierre-Paul is now focused on his rehab and he believes he will play again.

"I can't think of the last time my index finger got me a sack" with a winking emoji.

Jason Pierre-Paul Missing Part Of Thumb, Underwent New Surgery

Sep 15, 2015 3:17 PM

Jason Pierre-Paul had a repair procedure performed on his right middle finger three days before the New York Giants examined his hand last week.

The condition of that finger and the fact that Pierre-Paul also is missing the tip of his thumb and his entire index finger has led to some increased pessimism among team decision-makers about his prognosis.

The Giants don't plan to see Pierre-Paul again for another five or six weeks and that if the hand isn't healed to their satisfaction by then, they will consider rescinding his $14.81 million franchise tender.

Giants Ordered Rashad Jennings Not To Score Touchdown

Sep 14, 2015 4:55 PM

Rashad Jennings was ordered by Eli Manning not to score on consecutive runs inside the 5-yard line.

"On the first-down play, I was told, 'Rashad, don't score,'" Jennings said. "On second down, 'Rashad, don't score.' I was tempted to say, 'Forget it,' and go score because I could. But I didn't want to be that guy. But definitely, I was asked not to score."

After the game, Jennings told ESPN, "As a running back, it's really tough when they tell you not to score" but didn't elaborate.

Jennings said this was the first time he has been given such an order since he was in college, and back then the reason was that his team had a lead and a chance to run out the clock with the ball still in its hands.

Jason Pierre-Paul's Injury Worse Than Giants Were Led To Believe

Sep 13, 2015 11:05 PM

The New York Giants believe the damage to Jason Pierre-Paul's right hand was worse than they were led to believe.

The Giants examined him this week and fear Pierre-Paul may not be able to play at all this year.

In addition to the missing right index finger, fractured thumb and skin grafts, a portion of one of the other fingers on Pierre-Paul's right hand is missing.

The Giants have no plans to rescind Pierre-Paul's franchise tender since it's not costing them anything.

If he were to sign it, they could place him on the non-football injury list and they wouldn't have to pay him.

Not everyone in the Giants organization has given up on the idea of Pierre-Paul returning. And some who saw him in the building last week were encouraged by his attitude, his demeanor and his physical condition apart from the hand.

Eli Manning Close To $84M Extension With Giants

Sep 11, 2015 2:26 AM

Eli Manning and the New York Giants are finalizing a four-year extension worth $84 million with $65 million in guaranteed money.

The two sides continue to work on the specific language of the deal.

Manning still will make $17.5 million in the final year of his current contract, which would bring his five-year total to $101.5 million.

"It's not done yet," Manning told ESPN's Ed Werder late Thursday afternoon. "Hopefully it gets done very soon, and I can worry about football and not have to deal with this."

Manning's $21 million average in new money on the four-year extension would rank him fourth among quarterbacks in the NFL, behind Aaron Rodgers ($22 million), Russell Wilson ($21.9 million) and Ben Roethlisberger ($21.85 million).

Jason Pierre-Paul, Giants Disagree On His Readiness To Play

Sep 8, 2015 8:10 PM

Jason Pierre-Paul and the New York Giants have a disagreement over his readiness to play just weeks after losing a finger in a fireworks accident.

Pierre-Paul underwent a team physical Monday and met with members of the organization so they could evaluate him medically and made an informed decision about his status. But the two sides parted Tuesday without the player signing his one-year, $14.8 million franchise tender -- a number being applied to the Giants' salary cap even though they don't have the player on the field.

"Probably not going to happen in the near future," a source involved in the discussions between the player and the team said in a text. "Probably will wait until he gets fully ready."

Jason Pierre-Paul To Rejoin Giants Next Week

Sep 3, 2015 6:38 PM

Jason Pierre-Paul will return to the New York Giants next week.

Pierre-Paul has stayed away from the Giants all offseason, first because of his contract situation, and more recently while recovering from the July 4 fireworks accident that cost him his right index finger. The Giants have not been able to examine Pierre-Paul since the accident.

The Giants designated Pierre-Paul their franchise player in March. Pierre-Paul has yet to sign his $14.813 million franchise tender and won't sign it until he is sure the Giants won't place him on the non-football injury list.
