Giants Rehire Steve Spagnuolo As Defensive Coordinator

Jan 15, 2015 7:17 PM

The New York Giants are bringing back Steve Spagnuolo as defensive coordinator.

The 55-year-old Spagnuolo, a 34-year coaching veteran who had a failed stint as head coach of the St. Louis Rams, was a defensive assistant with the Baltimore Ravens over the past two seasons. He replaces Perry Fewell on coach Tom Coughlin's staff.

Spagnuolo helped the Giants win the 2007 Super Bowl.

Coughlin Keeping Defensive Coordinator Perry Fewell

Jan 6, 2015 10:41 AM

Tom Coughlin will keep defensive coordinator Perry Fewell and special teams coordinator Tom Quinn.

While Coughlin hasn't stated anything publicly regarding the position coaches, the decision to keep the coordinators in place was reached a week after the New York Giants ended the season.

Fewell has been under fire after the Giants finished 2014 22nd in points allowed and 29th in yards.

Fewell's defenses have ranked in the bottom-five in yards allowed in three of his five seasons in New York and he's never had a top-10 scoring defense.

Bill Cowher Won't Coach In 2015

Jan 3, 2015 12:00 PM

Bill Cowher has confirmed he won't return to the NFL as a head coach for the 2015 season.

"It was great this year to be on the sidelines for some of the Thursday games (for CBS) and get to be up close to it," he told SiriusXM NFL Radio, via ESPN.com. "You see the officials, you see some of the assistant coaches ... it does get your blood going. But no, I'm in a really good place. I really enjoy my job at CBS. I'm enjoying all the involvement with that and the Thursday football.

"It's good. I'm in a good place. You're not going to see me on the sidelines. I enjoy it, I miss it, but not enough to get back."

Cowher has been linked to the New York Giants for years, but they don't appear likely to move on from Tom Coughlin.
