Umenyiora Wants To Return To Giants
Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has changed his course and now says that he wants to remain with the team as long as changes are made to how he's used.
Umenyiora, who lost his starting job after a Thanksgiving loss in Denver, insisted on Wednesday that he is too good a player to only be a third-down pass rusher.
"I love this team," Umenyiora said. "I have spent the last seven years of my life here. I have a bunch of great friends here, but this situation cannot continue the way it is. There are definitely some things that are going to be changed.
"I love this place and this organization, the front office, the coaches, I am all in," he added. "But I think I am too good of a player for this kind of situation."
Ochocinco Teases Jets' Revis
Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco took some playful shots at Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis on Wednesday.
"Darrelle Revis couldn't cover me in a brown paper bag on a corner of a Manhattan street inside a phone booth," Ochocinco said in a conference call. "It's impossible."
Revis, selected as a Pro Bowl starter, was unavailable to comment because he was sent home early due to an illness.
"I doubt that," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "I like him, like the way he plays and all that. Hope he doesn't play this week, but anytime we play him, he's always got comments. I think it's good, good for the game."
Manning, Coughlin Apologize To Fans
Giants quarterback Eli Manning and head coach Tom Coughlin have issued an apology to fans for their poor play this season.
New York's 41-9 loss to Carolina on Sunday hurt the team's playoff chances and they vanished when Dallas defeated Washington later on in the day.
"I apologize. I'm sorry. I wish I had an answer," Manning said Monday. "I wish we could have come out and played better football. I don't have the answer to why it happened or why it has happened kind of throughout the season where we have been up and down in our play."
"I do think the one thing that I want to say to our fans is that, to a man, we'd like to apologize for yesterday," Coughlin said. "I think that for whatever reason a team that had an awful lot to play for, that had opportunities there, that was playing in Giants Stadium for the last regular-season game, didn't play up to our capabilities. It's been a very frustrating thing."
Umenyiora Hints He's Done With Giants
Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora hinted after Sunday's loss to the Panthers that me might be done in New York.
Umenyiora went on a mini-rant about his "unbelievable situation" after he played sparingly against Carolina in a loss that led to the Giants being eliminated from playoff contention.
"I don't know, man. What did I play, five snaps today?" Umenyiora said. "I don't know what happened. I thought I was the problem. It's an unbelievable situation. Last game at Giants Stadium, probably as a Giant ... just the way everything has unfolded, it's been unbelievable. I would have never dreamt this in a million years. It is what it is. We live and we learn."

Jacobs' fine was for unnecessary roughness, Haynesworth's for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Steve Smith Wants Extension From Giants
Giants wide receiver Steve Smith wants to negotiate a contract extension after the season.
Agent Ralph Cindrich told the New York Daily News he's informed the Giants that the receiver wants a contract extension and they plan to press the issue this offseason.
Smith has 90 catches for 1,093 yards and six touchdowns this season.
"He wants to be a part of it," Cindrich said. "He's with an organization that can win. He's got a great quarterback. You always have a chance to go all the way and he can hit all his goals there. I know there are some issues up in the air, but if you have a chance to lock guys up, you lock guys up.
"Especially with a player like this."
Coughlin: Giants 'Have To Win'
Giants coach Tom Coughlin knows that all his team can do is win their remaining two games and hope they slip into the playoffs.
Even if New York wins their last two games, they'll have to hope that either Green Bay or Dallas loses one of their two contests.
"We just try to do the best we can with our circumstance and when we'll have to see what happens. We have to win games. We have to win," Coughlin said.
The Giants will play the Panthers and Vikings to close out the season.
