The Giants haven't rescinded their $14.8 million tag on Pierre-Paul for the 2015 season.

Eli Manning Doesn't Want 'Highest-Paid' Title, Wants That Salary

Aug 23, 2015 1:55 AM

Eli Manning has denied wanting to become the NFL's highest paid player.

Manning and his agent have never used the words “highest-paid,” but the amount Manning wants “might just make him the NFL’s highest-paid player anyway.”

With a franchise tag that would be $23.7 million for 2016 and 20 percent higher for 2017 (i.e., $28.44 million), Manning’s leverage necessarily puts him north of $22 million on his next contract.

The sticking point in talks is how much less Manning is willing to accept on a long-term deal.

Eli Manning Denies Wanting To Be NFL's Highest Paid QB

Aug 20, 2015 10:44 AM

Eli Manning disputed a report from Ian Rapoport claiming he wants to be the NFL's highest paid quarterback with his new deal with the New York Giants.

"The reports are all wrong," Manning said before Giants practice. "That's never been said, it's never come out of my mouth, I've never said it to my agent, I don't know where people are getting their information."

A source says the Giants' initial offer to Manning was for $17.5 million a year, which is what he's making this year and is less than other quarterbacks such as the Bears' Jay Cutler and the Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill.

"I know that was never said by him, claiming that was the goal," Manning said. "I don't compare myself to other quarterbacks that way, in terms of salaries."

Manning went so far as to accuse Rapoport of "trying to make a name for himself," which is a strong accusation and a clear indicator that he's bothered by the way he and his contract demands were presented Tuesday.

Eli Manning Wants To Be NFL's Highest Paid Player

Aug 19, 2015 10:41 AM

Eli Manning is discussing an extension with the New York Giants and his goal is to become the highest-paid player in the NFL.

Manning, whose contract expires after this season, is scheduled to make $17 million in base salary this season. Aaron Rodgers' deal, which he signed two years ago, tops the market with an average annual value of $22 million.

Several quarterbacks have agreed to new contracts this offseason, but none have surpassed the average annual value of Rodgers' contract.

Here's Manning's rankings in total QBR since 2010:
2010: 11th
2011: 11th
2012: 9th
2013: 29th
2014: 11th
