Taysom Hill, Saints Agree To Extension

Nov 22, 2021 5:41 PM

Taysom Hill and the New Orleans Saints have agreed to a contract extension that will pay him $40 million over the next four seasons if he remains in his current role.

The deal would be worth up to $95 million if Hill becomes the starting quarterback over the next four years.

The deal includes $22.5 million in guarantees.

The Saints had some salary-cap incentive to get an extension done with Hill before his contract voided next spring.

Michael Thomas Out For Season With Ankle Setback

Nov 3, 2021 12:56 PM

Michael Thomas will miss the entire 2021 season after "another small set back which we will have to address" in his recovery from ankle surgery.

The setback was a new issue that recently developed after Thomas had been progressing in his recovery.

Thomas underwent surgery in June to repair multiple ligaments in his left ankle -- an injury that he initially suffered in Week 1 of the 2020 season and battled throughout that entire year.

"I've always been a man of faith and these past few months my faith has truly been tested," Thomas tweeted.

Thomas continued: "Since [the June ankle surgery], the team and I have worked diligently, day and night to rehab and get me back on the field. Unfortunately there has been another small set back which we will have to address. To my displeasure, I will not be able to make it back in time for this season but will do everything in my power to get back to the player I have always been.

"I know God doesn't make mistakes so I will continue to follow in his path, and can't wait to be back on the field in front of the best fans on the planet."

Saints Fear Jameis Winston Suffered 'Significant' Injury

Nov 1, 2021 9:23 AM

The New Orleans Saints fear Jameis Winston suffered a "significant" knee injury in the team's 36-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

"I cried when I saw him coming in," acknowledged Sean Payton, who said he was waiting to speak with doctors before giving a more detailed diagnosis. "It's hard."

Trevor Siemian replaced Winston and led the Saints to an improbable win that was clinched by Tom Brady's third turnover of the game.

Winston was injured during a horse-collar tackle by Devin White -- who was flagged 15 yards for pulling Winston down by the shoulder area of his jersey, forcing Winston to land awkwardly. Winston's left leg got pinned behind him as he hit the turf.
