Drew Brees Played Serious Foot, Shoulder Injuries, Wife Says

Jan 21, 2021 12:52 PM

We knew Drew Brees dealt with 11 cracked ribs and a collapsed lung this season, but the New Orleans Saints quarterback had other injuries as well.

According to a social media post from his wife, Brittany, he also dealt with major foot and shoulder injuries throughout the year.

"The fact that you played this entire year with a torn rotator cuff, torn fascia in your foot, ... then later 11 broken ribs and a collapsed lung," Brittany Brees posted Wednesday morning, "makes me think I should not have taken the epidural while giving birth to our kids."

Brittany Brees didn't specify exactly when those shoulder and foot injuries occurred.

Drew Brees Not Ready To Announce Retirement Decision

Jan 18, 2021 8:40 AM

Drew Brees did not officially announce his intention on retiring from the NFL offseason after the New Orleans Saints' loss in the NFC Divisional Round.

"I'm gonna give myself an opportunity to think about the season, think about a lot of things, just like I did last year, and make a decision," Brees said when asked directly if he just played his final game.

Jay Glazer reported before the game that Brees intends to retire.

Brees said he had no regrets about coming back this season after he nearly retired following the 2019 campaign.

"I would never regret it. Never," said Brees, who missed four games in November and December because of a punctured lung and 11 broken ribs but still helped the Saints earn the No. 2 seed in the NFC with a 12-4 record before their disappointing finish.

"No complaints. No regrets. Man, I've always tried to play this game with a great respect and a great reverence for it. And I appreciate all that this game has given to me," said Brees, who led the Saints to their only Super Bowl win in franchise history in 2009 and holds the NFL record for career passing yards. "There are obviously so many incredible memories, so many incredible relationships that have come as a result of playing this game. And, man, you find out so much about yourself and you have to fight through so much when you play this game.

"And I'd say this season, I probably had to fight through more than I've ever had to in any other season in my career -- from injury to all the COVID stuff to just crazy circumstances. And it was worth every moment of it. Absolutely."

"I guess it was inevitable," Brees said. "Listen, the minute that he signed with the Bucs and came in the division, you felt like that was gonna be a team to contend with. That was gonna be a team that had playoff aspirations and beyond, just like us."

Brees, who will turn 42 on Friday, saw the Saints get the better of Brady, 43, and the Buccaneers in the regular season with wins in Week 1 and Week 9.

Mitchell Trubisky Wants To Open Up Offense Against Saints

Jan 7, 2021 8:40 AM

Mitchell Trubisky wants the Chicago Bears to open up their offense against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon.

"I think we definitely need to open it up a little bit," Trubisky said of the playoff matchup. "As far as staying aggressive, I like going for it on fourth down. That's just a mindset, but I think, more importantly, we've got to score more touchdowns in the red zone...

"Our special-teams unit is doing incredible, and we gotta keep that going. But we gotta help our team and put our defense in better positions by finishing with touchdowns. That just makes you a better offense and better team, so I think that's the main improvement we want to see this week."
