Mike Zimmer: Stefon Diggs Wasn't An Issue

May 29, 2020 8:25 AM

Mike Zimmer says the Minnesota Vikings didn't intend to trade Stefon Diggs, but the offer from the Buffalo Bills was too good for them to pass up.

The coach's statements echoed what Rick Spielman said earlier this month.

"If you said somebody was a pain in the butt, you probably wouldn't say him," Zimmer said of the wide receiver. "I've been around way worse guys than him, and I hope he has a great career and finishes up strong."

Vikings Get Permission To Sell Alcohol In Park Outside Stadium

May 20, 2020 9:00 AM

The Minnesota legislature has given the Vikings permission to sell alcohol in the Commons park, a 4.2-acre gathering space outside U.S. Bank Stadium.

The Vikings don't have a specific plan to sell alcohol in Commons park yet.

"The biggest issue is the lack of fan gathering spaces and disappearing tailgating opportunities -- a time-honored tradition for the Vikings fans in the days of yore," team vice president Lester Bagley said.

If the coronavirus pandemic prevents fans from filling the stadium, it's possible that fans will still be permitted to gather outside the stadium in a way that promotes social distancing.

Anthony Harris has signed his franchise tender with the Minnesota Vikings.

The safety will be paid a guaranteed salary of $11,441,000 for the 2020 season. Harris and the Vikings have until the July 15 deadline to agree to a long-term contract.

"I will let my agents and the Vikings work towards long term certainty in Minnesota, but I am excited to be back for the 2020 season," Harris wrote on Twitter.

Harris, 28, tied for the NFL lead with six interceptions during his breakout campaign in 2019.

Vikings, Saints To Play NFL's First Friday Game Since 2009

May 8, 2020 8:32 AM

The New Orleans Saints will host the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day this year, marking the NFL's first Friday game since 2009.

It'll be just the 11th NFL game played on a Friday since the 1970 merger.

"There was some Christmas magic involved here," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said. "Another Saint, St. Nick, put in the request for that game as an extra present."

The matchup could have significant NFC playoff implications. This will be the fifth meeting between the Saints and Vikings in the past four years, including playoff wins by Minnesota in both the 2017 and 2019 seasons.
