The Minnesota Vikings will promote Gary Kubiak to offensive coordinator, replacing Kevin Stefanski.

Stefanski was hired by the Cleveland Browns as head coach.

Mike Zimmer touted the impact Kubiak made last season as an assistant head coach and offensive advisor. 

The Cleveland Browns are expected to hire George Paton as general manager this week.

Paton is currently assistant general manager of the Minnesota Vikings.

The other two candidates interviewed were Eagles Vice President of Football Operations Andrew Berry and Patriots Director of College Scouting Monti Ossenfort.

Kevin Stefanski is familiar with Paton from their time together with the Vikings.

Adam Thielen is questionable for Saturday's game against the San Francisco 49ers after getting stitches on his left ankle following an injury at practice.

Thielen didn't practice on Thursday and the Minnesota Vikings have been secretive on how the injury occurred.

"I don't know," Mike Zimmer said. "We don't talk about things that happened in practice."

Thielen said he "got tangled up" Wednesday but did not provide specifics on how many stitches he received.

"It is what it is," Thielen said. "At that point, you're just trying to figure out how to get out there on Saturday. That's my mindset. Do whatever it takes to get out there Saturday and help this team win."

The Minnesota Vikings are dealing with a number of injuries as they prepare to face the San Francisco 49ers this weekend.

Stefon Diggs missed practice on Tuesday and Wednesday and Adam Thielen suffered an ankle injury on Wednesday.

Thielen was listed as limited on Minnesota's injury report.

Diggs has been dealing with an illness.

NFL officials decided both on the field and after reviewing the replay that there was not enough contact to charge Kyle Rudolph with offensive pass interference after there appeared to be some hand-fighting with P.J. Williams on his game-winning 4-yard touchdown catch in overtime of the Minnesota Vikings' 26-20 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

"There is contact by both players, but none of that contact rises to the level of a foul," said the NFL's senior vice president of officiating, Al Riveron, who briefly reviewed the play from the league's command center in New York. "This is consistent with what we've done all year long -- we left the ruling on the field. We let it stand."

The replay review process was completed so quickly that some Saints players didn't realize it had been reviewed.

When asked by a designated pool reporter if the decision was "obviously clear enough" for the replay process to be completed so quickly, Riveron said, "Yes, Fox was great. They gave us every angle that they had pertaining to the play. So we're very comfortable with what we saw. Nothing came through afterward that we had not seen prior to making the ruling."

The Minnesota Vikings announced Mike Zimmer and Rick Spielman will remain in their current positions with the franchise for the 2020 season.

“We value Mike and Rick’s leadership and we have every intent of Mike continuing as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings and Rick leading our football operations, next year and beyond,” said Mark Wilf. 

The Vikings returned to the playoffs in 2019 and play at the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card round on Sunday.
