Jaguars Expected To Keep Blake Bortles

Jan 31, 2018 8:37 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars are content with Blake Bortles and won't pursue another quarterback this offseason.

Bortles recently underwent wrist surgery. His $19 million contract is guaranteed for injury, so if he’s not ready to pass a physical on March 14, he's covered.

Blake Bortles Hopes To Return To Jaguars Next Season

Jan 24, 2018 9:00 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars picked up the fifth-year option on Blake Bortles' contract for 2018, but there is no guarantee he'll return to the team.

The quarterback's $19.053 million salary only becomes fully guaranteed on the first day of the league year (March 14). The Jaguars haven't indicated whether they want him to return.

"I've enjoyed my four years here in Jacksonville, and I would love to be able to play here for as long as they would let me," Bortles said. "What they do and all the decisions that are made are kind of out of my control. I'd be thrilled to be able to stay here and play here, and hopefully that can happen."

Bortles very nearly led the Jaguars to a victory over the New England Patriots and the trip to the Super Bowl this past Sunday.

He completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 3,687 yards and 21 touchdowns with 13 interceptions during the regular season and led the Jaguars to a 10-6 record and the AFC South title.

Jaguars Aren't Buying Tom Brady's Hand Injury

Jan 19, 2018 8:05 AM

The Jacksonville Jaguars are preparing to face Tom Brady at 100% on Sunday despite a hand injury that kept him out of practice on Thursday.

"I remember [Buffalo Bills running back] LeSean McCoy said he had a high ankle sprain and came out there cutting and stuff," Jaguars defensive lineman Malik Jackson said.

Injured or not, Jackson believes the Jaguars can slow the New England Patriots' offense, if they follow the right formula.

"We have to go rush the quarterback," Jackson said. "Also we have to make sure we press the pocket up the middle because he likes to step up in the middle or that’s where he feels comfortable standing behind that center. That’s what I told our [defensive] line. We have to make sure that we create pressure, have to rally and tackle and just frustrate him. He is 40, so we can hit him."

NFL Divisional Round Ratings Down 16 Percent From 2017

Jan 18, 2018 9:50 AM

The NFL's television ratings for the divisional round playoff games were down 16 percent compared to last season.

The weekend's four games averaged 30.43 million viewers, off from 36.22 million the year before, the Nielsen company said.

Last year's games featured the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys, which reached more than 48 million viewers.

While ratings were down, Saturday's game between the Patriots and Titans was only one million viewers behind the College Football Championship for the most watched program of the week.

Patriots Vow Not To Underestimate Blake Bortles

Jan 18, 2018 8:24 AM

The New England Patriots promise they won't look past Blake Bortles as they head into Sunday's AFC Championship Game.

Bortles has been heavily criticized throughout his NFL career, especially this year.

"It's kind of crazy," Devin McCourty said Wednesday, alluding to recent comments about Bortles. "The guy is still playing football. All the guys that said that, I'm sure they'd want to be in his spot right now, playing in a championship game.

"I've seen some of his interviews and it seems like he has a great attitude, laughing about it, cracking jokes. I think you see that on the field. The guy is a winner."

Houston Texans linebacker Jadeveon Clowney called him "trash," with Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jurrell Casey saying Bortles "is going to choke" in pressure situations. Earlier this season, Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas said Bortles is "a subpar quarterback."

David DeCastro: Steelers Obsession With Patriots Was Embarrassing

Jan 15, 2018 7:47 AM

The Pittsburgh Steelers entered Sunday's playoff game with the Jacksonville Jaguars talking a lot about the New England Patriots and it may have cost them a chance at a Super Bowl.

The Jaguars will face the Patriots in Sunday's AFC Championship Game after beating the Steelers 45-42 at Heinz Field.

"They were ready to go; they were mad; they were angry; they had something to prove, and they did it," Steelers offensive guard David DeCastro said. "Yeah, it’' embarrassing. It really is, man. It just blows my mind. They beat us 30-9 [on Oct. 9]. We played like crap, and we want to talk about New England?

"I don't know what to say about that. It's just stupid. It's just not what you do. You don't need to give a team like that more bulletin board material."

Safety Mike Mitchell told Sports Illustrated that the Steelers would play the Patriots again and Le'Veon Bell made similar claims in a tweet.
