Naked Drive-Thru Coach To Land With Jaguars

Oct 31, 2014 12:39 PM

Joe Cullen flew into Jacksonville on Wednesday to interview for a position with the Jaguars. According to a team source, Cullen is expected to be hired, possibly as early as Thursday. But it?s unclear what responsibilities Cullen will hold, because current Jaguars defensive line coach Ted Monachino remains on the staff. The expected hiring will come with widespread scrutiny. Cullen was arrested twice in seven days in 2006, which resulted in a $20,000 fine and suspension by the Lions and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for what he called ?conduct detrimental to the league.? Before making the decision to bring in Cullen, Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver and the staff conducted an extensive review of Cullen, which included a consultation with Goodell, who seemed to endorse the potential hire. Cullen was first arrested in August 2006, a night before a Lions preseason game at Oakland, when a worker at a fast-food restaurant?s drive-thru window saw the coach naked behind the wheel of an SUV and called police.

Owner Wants Garrard To Follow Peyton's Lead

Oct 31, 2014 5:15 AM

Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver wants to see quarterback David Garrard work harder and emulate Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. "First of all let me say this, I think that David Garrard can win for us," Weaver told USA Today. "And I think we have to do some things differently there in terms of preparation, in terms of getting ... I tell a story about Peyton Manning when (Indianapolis) drafted Pierre Garcon and Peyton Manning drove three hours twice a week because this kid couldn't come to the OTAs and train because of his graduating class. He drove three hours twice a week to throw to this kid, to teach him how to be a pro, how to work. We need to do more of that here. David just needs to do more of that with our young receivers. "We've got some good receivers. You've got a (Mike) Sims-Walker, you've got a Mike Thomas who's a playmaker, an ascending player, you've got a Jarett Dillard who got hurt this year, you've got a Mercedes Lewis. We've got some guys that can do it now. We need to work with those guys with David and make sure that they have so much confidence on a couple routes for each one of those players. Depending on down and distance, I have the confidence that player is going to be where he's supposed to be and I'm going to get the ball and I'm going to get the first down and move the chains. Those are the kinds of accountability things that we're talking about here."

Jack Del Rio denied Tuesday that he has been made an offer by USC to replace Pete Carroll as Trojans football coach. According to an unattributed report in the Los Angeles Daily News, the newspaper said USC presented a formal offer to the 46-year-old Del Rio on Monday. "All of those things are manufactured," Del Rio, who played at USC from 1981-84, told WJXT of Jacksonville. "The only thing I can tell you is I've been busy working on the Jaguars for 2010. We're busy at work, trying to build this thing strong." "All of those other things are a figment of other people's imaginations."

Los Angeles Plans To Pursue Jags, Bills

Jul 29, 2014 5:25 PM

The company behind a plan to lure the NFL back to Los Angeles said Tuesday the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills are the first teams it will try to relocate. Majestic Realty Co. managing partner John Semcken said the company is still considering at least seven franchises for a new stadium some 25 miles east of Los Angeles. Majestic won't approach the San Francisco 49ers, San Diego Chargers or Minnesota Vikings as long as they are seeking stadium plans of their own, Semcken said. Other teams that may be contacted include the St. Louis Rams and Oakland Raiders.
