Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is worried that an umpire in the backfield could disrupt the team's offense.
"It certainly doesn't seem like they took some of the things that we do and other teams do into account when they made the rule," Manning said. "I'm not a big fan of it right now."
A new NFL rule has placed an umpire in the backfield heading into this season.
He traditionally was stationed on the defensive side of the football, behind the linebackers and 4 or 5 yards off the line of scrimmage.
This season, he is on the offensive side, 12 to 15 yards deep, set to the left of the quarterback and opposite the referee.

Colts president Bill Polian reports that there has been no progress in negotiations on a long-term contract for quarterback Peyton Manning.

Brees Monitoring Peyton, Brady Contract Talks

Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay has said that he plans to eventually make Manning the NFL's highest-paid player.
New England's talks with Brady haven't gone quite as well, but things appear to have turned positive as of late.
"Sure. Any guy who plays your position and is in a position where they're negotiating a new contract, that affects you," Brees said.
"In a way, I'm paying attention and in a way, I'm not because it's all about playing football right now. It's not the offseason anymore. I know there was talks of that but for now it's just about winning football games and that stuff will take care of itself."
