The Colts will continue to bring Jerry Hughes, the team's first round pick, along at a slow pace. "Jerry has a lot of talent, but there is no rush for him,'' said Dwight Freeney. "You don't want to ever expect too much, too soon from anybody.'' Hughes was inactive for Week 1's game against Houston. He was just the second Colts first-round pick to be inactive for a season opener since their relocation in 1984.

Wayne Comfortable Playing Out Contract

Apr 5, 2014 12:40 PM

With a lot of other elite NFL players receiving new deals, Reggie Wayne appears as though he will play out his current contract. "I got two years left," said Wayne. "I'm going to do my time." Wayne said he's not optimistic there will be movement anytime soon, but that the issue will not influence his approach. "Either we're going to get something done or not," Wayne said. "Nobody came up to me and said, 'Reggie, let me holler at you.' I can read between the lines. I know what's going on. I'm not going to let it affect my production. It's a business and I am going to treat like a business. Let's go out there and make plays and go forward from there. "In two years I'll worry about it and we'll see how it goes."

Reggie Wayne Still Wants New Contract

Jul 4, 2014 2:12 AM

Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne still desires a new contract. "This offseason we were talking about contracts," Wayne said of a conversation with Texans receiver Andre Johnson. "Once he got his done, I texted him 'congratulations,' and the first thing he asked me was, 'So what's up with yours? What are you going to do?' I texted him 'absolutely nothing.' At least somebody's getting paid. I'd also like to send congratulations out to Miles Austin. He got paid." Wayne is playing out the final two years of a six-year, $39 million deal he signed four years ago. "It's either we'll get something done or we're not. We haven't had any talks. I can read in between the lines, I know what's going on," he said. "But I'm not going to let that affect my production. Like they say, it's a business, right? So I'm going to treat it like a business. I'm going to do what I'm supposed to do. And that's go out there and make plays."

Colts Will Keep Manning Talks Quiet

May 20, 2014 2:23 AM

With the rumor mill churning in New England about Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and a possible contract extension, the Colts plan to keep things quiet on the Peyton Manning front. Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay referred to the "cone of silence" that was made popular in the old TV series "Get Smart" when asked about Manning's status. "The 'cone of silence' is going to come down, at least for us," Irsay said. "That's how you get something done. I'm not even sure what the Brady thing is." Irsay has said he's committed to making Manning, the NFL's only four-time MVP and winner the past two seasons, the highest-paid player in the league.
