Brett Favre Wants Packers To Let Aaron Rodgers 'Play His Game'

Jun 24, 2019 8:12 PM

Matt LaFleur plans to limit Aaron Rodgers' freedom at the line of scrimmage in his first-year as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers.

Rodgers has said he believes a quarterback with his experience should be able to have freedom in the offense.

Brett Favre came to Rodgers' defense this weekend, telling reporters that he's confident Rodgers will thrive regardless of the constraints of LaFleur's or any coach's system.

"Aaron will be fine," Favre said. "I think that the thing is he needs to remain the same. And I don't have to give him any advice. You know, he'll handle it well.

"The question is, how will they handle it with him. And obviously, that's very important. I mean, there's more to the team than Aaron but we all have to admit that when he's playing and playing well, which generally when he's playing he is playing well, you don't want to change what's working. There's other factors that you have to work on."

Favre continued: "I think you let him play his game and not disturb that very much," Favre said. "And it's going to be interesting to see if that happens."

The Green Bay Packers have claimed Michael Roberts off waivers.

Last week, a trade sending the tight end from the Detroit Lions to the New England Patriots for a 2020 conditional seventh-round pick fell through after he failed his physical.

He was sent back to Detroit's roster and then waived.

Aaron Rodgers Wants Freedom At The Line Of Scrimmage

Jun 17, 2019 4:38 PM

Aaron Rodgers doesn't seem happy that new coach Matt LaFleur's offensive system provides little freedom at the line of scrimmage.

"I don't think you want me to turn off 11 years," Rodgers says. "There's stuff that not many people in the league can do at the line. That's not a humble brag. That's just a fact."

Thus far, LaFleur hasn't changed his approach with the Green Bay Packers.
