Culpepper Would Consider Backup Role With Packers
Free agent quarterback Daunte Culpepper would consider a backup role with the Packers this season, according to NFL.com.
"I have not heard from the Packers since before the draft," Culpepper said Thursday night. "My ears are definitely opened to listen if they need a proven backup for Aaron."
Green Bay has a pair of rookies (Matt Flynn and Brian Brohm) backing up Aaron Rodgers.
Not surprisingly, Brohm believes the Packers are all set. "I don't think we need to bring in a veteran backup because I think all three of us are ready to go," he said.
Rodgers Looks Good As Packers Down Broncos
Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers looked near perfect on Friday night in the team's win over Denver, according to The Associated Press.
Rodgers was 18-for-22 with 193 yards and one touchdown, leading four scoring drives in five possessions.
"I think Aaron Rodgers has done everything right from a focus standpoint," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "He was put in a situation that's different. He's done a very good job of focusing through that. And at the end of the day you need to focus on playing quarterback and I thought he did that very well tonight."
Packers' Barnett Wins Appeal, Won't Be Suspended
Green Bay linebacker Nick Barnett won an appeal of a one-game suspension for his involvement in an off-field altercation and will not miss the team's opener, according to ESPN.com.
Barnett will be fined one week's pay but would rather play for free than not play at all.
"I believe so," Barnett said. "I was talking to myself [Tuesday] and thinking about the steep fine and how much it was, but the league has to do what it has to do in order to keep the NFL in the right direction. It sounds steep, and me personally, I don't have anything on my record anymore, but it's the personal conduct [policy], and you have to abide by it."
Barnett will lose $155,882 of his $2.65 million salary this season.
Pack's Favre Deal Included Souvenirs, Blog
Green Bay's proposed $20 million marketing deal for Brett Favre included a merchandise line, autographs, personal appearances and a blog, according to The Associated Press.
"We do want to have a long-term relationship with Brett," Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy said in a news conference. "He will always be a Packer and he's very important to this organization."
Even though Favre turned down the deal in favor of returning to play and was traded to the New York Jets last week, the team are expected to offer him a similar agreement once he retires for good.
Rodgers Bothered By Personal Attacks
Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers is bothered by the personal attacks he has received from a number of Green Bay fans, according to The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
"I understand it to some point if I put myself into a Favre fanatic?s shoes," Rodgers said of getting booed. "The things I can?t understand, the things I really take personally, is when I?m driving up to the (parking lot) gate and punching in my punch code and somebody says (expletive) to me. That kind of bothers me."
"Or when a little kid is yelling swear words at me. That kind of gets to me. They expect a high level of play, and they miss Brett Favre," Rodgers added. "I understand that. But the (expletive) and the little kids saying swear words to me, I don?t understand that."
Rodgers Has Decent Debut As Starter
Aaron Rodgers had a decent debut as the starting quarterback for the Packers on Monday night against the Bengals, according to The Associated Press.
Rodgers went 9-for-15 with 117 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Rodgers connected with James Jones for a first quarter score, the second of Green Bay's two touchdowns.
"I've always felt like we have the best fans in the NFL and that they would support our team regardless of how they feel about myself, or Brett, or management or whatever," Rodgers said. "But it was a great reception when we took the field."
Rodgers Fires Agent
Aaron Rodgers has fired his agent Mike Sullivan but would not say why.
"It's kind of a personal matter, and I'm going to keep that personal," Rodgers said.
Rodgers: I'm Still Following A Legacy
Aaron Rodgers doesn't think that his job as the starting quarterback of the Packers has gotten any easier with Brett Favre in New York, according to The Associated Press.
"My job is going to be difficult either way. There's a lot of pressure to just be a starting quarterback in this league," Rodgers said Friday. "I'm still following Brett's legacy, regardless of the fact if he's here, retired or like he is in New York now."
