Favre Not Considering Retirment

Oct 21, 2014 9:44 PM

If Brett Favre seriously considered retiring last season after winning the NFC North Division, there?s no telling how a .500 or lower finish in 2005 might influence whether he returns as the Green Bay Packers? quarterback in 2006. The 0-3 Packers might be on their way to their worst season since 1991, when they went 4-12. If they don?t recover, there could be substantial fallout, and one of the major issues will be whether Favre will return for his 16th NFL season, when he?ll be going on 37. ?I think Brett loves football,? said Ted Thompson, the Packers? general manager. ?At some point, he?ll go out on his own terms, and that?s the way it?s supposed to be. But I don?t know that you can jump to that conclusion (he?ll retire) because we lost three games here.? Favre on Wednesday wouldn?t give much indication whether the Packers? performance will be a major factor in whether he returns in ?06. He said he felt more uncertainty going into this season about how the team would perform than in any past year, which suggests he considered the possibility the team could slip when he decided to return. ?At 0-3, I think most people would say, ?He?s gone after this year, they may not even want him back? or whatever,? Favre said. ?I haven?t even thought about it, really. I?d much rather be 3-0, believe me. But if I was sitting here and we were 3-0, I don?t think in the back of my mind I?d be saying I?m definitely coming back because we?re 3-0. I?m just going to take it game by game and try to get this back on track and see what happens.?

Packers Will Retire White?s No. 92 This Sunday

May 3, 2014 7:33 AM

The Green Bay Packers will retire the No. 92 belonging to their legendary ?Minister of Defense? this Sunday to honor Reggie White. "A lot of guys here didn't get a chance to play with Reggie or even get to know Reggie," said center Mike Flanagan, one of a handful of Packers who played with White in the 1990s. "So, he just wanted to let some guys know what Reggie White meant to this organization, what he meant to the NFL and what he meant to this planet as a human being." White becomes only the fifth number retired in Packers history. "One of the best things to happen to me in my career was having an opportunity to play with Reggie White," Favre said Thursday. "And I think the way I handle myself today, the fun I try to bring to this team and the intensity I try to bring, not only in games but in practices, meetings and things like that is from Reggie White. No doubt about it. What a great player. And it's a great honor to say I played with Reggie White."

Let The Rebuilding Begin In Green Bay

Nov 27, 2014 8:52 PM

Packers receiver Javon Walker injured his right knee in the third quarter against Detroit on Sunday and will miss the rest of the season, the Packers announced Monday. "It was his ACL," Packers coach Mike Sherman said after the Lions won 17-3. A torn ACL requires reconstructive surgery and anywhere from six to 12 months of rehabilitiation. "Guys have to step up and replace a very high quality player," Sherman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I doubt he'll be back any time in the near future." With Walker injured, the Journal Sentinel is reporting that Donald Driver will move from split end to flanker, Walker's position, and Robert Ferguson will start at split end.

Walker's Season Done With ACL Injury?

Jun 2, 2014 10:52 PM

Packers receiver Javon Walker's season hangs in the balance after he injured his right knee in the third quarter against Detroit on Sunday. "It was his ACL," Packers coach Mike Sherman said after the Lions won 17-3. Sherman said the team will not know how serious the injury is until Walker has an MRI on Monday, although the Green Bay Post-Gazette is reporting that Walker is expected to miss the rest of the season. Walker was hurt when he caught a 55-yard pass -- negated by a pass-interference call against him -- and was tackled by safety Terrence Holt.

Favre Injures Ankle, Won?t Miss Opener

Oct 21, 2014 9:44 PM

Packers quarterback Brett Favre has a 225 consecutive games started NFL record to maintain and after recently injuring his right ankle, it does not seem serious enough to end his incredible record. "He's fine," said Packers coach Mike Sherman. "I was planning on resting him today anyway. With the ankle being slightly sprained the other day anyway it gave me another reason to (rest him). He'll be fine."

Ahman Green Suspension Now Unlikely

Oct 8, 2014 5:38 PM

There's no indication running back Ahman Green will face a suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, according to PackersNews.com. An NFL spokesman said Sunday evening that the league announced all first-game suspensions when it made public final roster cuts on Saturday evening, and Green was not on that list. Green was subject to a suspension because of his arrest last spring, when his wife summoned police to their home after an argument.

Packers Send CB Johnson To Rams For LB Thomas

Oct 29, 2014 12:31 AM

The Green Bay Packers traded cornerback Chris Johnson to the St. Louis Rams for linebacker Robert Thomas on Saturday. We thought St. Louis was a team that was strong and deep at linebacker," Packers general manager Ted Thompson said. "He runs to the ball. He's active. I wouldn't want to put a timetable on it (becoming a starter) but he's been a starter."
