Green Takes Plea Agreement, May Face Punishment From The NFL

Sep 23, 2014 7:49 PM

Rather than take the charges of disorderly conduct/domestic abuse to a jury, Packers running back Ahman Green agreed to a tentative plea agreement with the Brown County District Attorney. Green may now face a possible punishment for violating the NFL?s personal-conduct policy. The policy states that anyone convicted of a criminal violation or accepting a plea to a lesser offense "will be subject to discipline as determined by the commissioner." The discipline could be a fine, suspension or banishment from the league.

Of primary concern for Green is the possibility of a fine or suspension by the National Football League if he accepts a deal. Unless Green is cleared of all charges, he faces possible punishment by NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue under the league's personal conduct policy.

Franks Signs Seven-Year Deal

Nov 30, 2014 1:25 PM

Three-time Pro Bowl tight end Bubba Franks, absent from the Green Bay Packers during the entire offseason after declining to sign the one-year qualifying offer as a "transition" free agent, has reached agreement with the club on a seven-year, $28 million contract. Final details of the contract, which runs through the 2011 season, were expected to be completed Wednesday, with Franks likely rejoining the Packers in time for practice Thursday. It is unlikely the five-year veteran will play in the preseason game Friday night against New England. Franks, 27, was the Packers' first-round choice in the 2000 NFL draft and signed a five-year, $6.5 million contract as a rookie. When that contract lapsed following the 2004 season, the Packers limited his mobility as a free agent by designating the former University of Miami star a "transition" player, with a one-year qualifying offer of $2.095 million.

Favre Has Same Hip Condition As Bo Jackson

Dec 17, 2014 7:10 AM

Brett Favre has a chronic hip condition that almost prevented him from being traded to the Green Bay Packers 13 years ago, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday. Favre and former Packers general manager Ron Wolf said Tuesday at training camp that the three-time NFL MVP was diagnosed in 1992 with avascular necrosis, a condition that can lead to hip replacement surgery. "It's a lack of blood supply to a socket," Favre told the newspaper. "To this day, it bothers me from time to time, but before the draft I did MRIs for Atlanta, I did MRIs for Seattle, went through all kind of evaluations at the combine. A lot of teams were apprehensive because of that." Favre said he hurt his hip in the East-West Shrine game, and the condition is the same as the one that afflicted former football and baseball star Bo Jackson. Favre was drafted by Atlanta and spent his first season as a backup there before Wolf engineered the trade on Feb. 10, 1992, that brought him to Green Bay in exchange for a first-round draft pick. Favre said that when he arrived in Green Bay, the Packers examined him and predicted he would suffer from avascular necrosis and would soon feel effects of it. According to Favre, he failed the physical, but Wolf told the medical staff to pass him. "The prognosis on avascular necrosis is at some point you're going to have to have a replacement or it's going to have to be treated," Favre said. "I don't have as much flexibility in that socket, but you're kind of rolling the dice. They said I wouldn't play three or four years. Obviously they were wrong and Ron was willing to take that risk."

Packers WR Ferguson Looking For More

Jun 11, 2014 11:29 PM

Green Bay wider receiver Robert Ferguson is looking to gain a bigger role in the Packers offense, meaning more passes from Mr. Bret Favre. And now that he is healthy, he can make such. His good health also makes him solid trade bait. "The only thing I am thinking about right now is being productive," said Ferguson. "Wherever I am productive at, I don't care. I want to use my talent. I don't feel I have been able to utilize all my talent since I have been in the NFL. I'm just focusing on training camp, and this is the best training camp I have ever had."

Walker Injures Left Hamstring On Sunday Night

Sep 23, 2014 7:55 PM

Green Bay Packers Pro Bowl receiver Javon Walker injured his left hamstring Sunday night and was held out the rest of the practice. "I felt something pull when I was running," Walker said, adding that he didn't consider it to be serious. Mark Roman and rookie Nick Collins, working as the starting safeties, collided hard as they defended a pass play over the middle during the 75-minute practice. Both players stayed on the ground for a few minutes before walking off under their own power. Neither player returned to field. A visibly shaken Roman wore an ice pack on the back of his neck. The extent of the injuries for either player wasn't known.
