Packers Pass On FredEx

Jun 14, 2014 4:58 AM

The Packers opted against signing talkative, controversial wide receiver Freddie Mitchell, instead adding former Packers practice squad player Andrae Thurman, who was cut by the Titans this week, ESPN.com's John Clayton reports. The Packers also re-signed running back Walt Williams, released wide receiver Jamal Jones and placed Ahman Green on injured reserve. Mitchell was on the receiving end of the fourth-and-26 pass that helped the Eagles oust the Packers from the playoffs in 2003 when he was with Philadelphia. Mitchell has been out of action since being released by Kansas City on Sept. 3 after failing to stick with the Chiefs over the summer after talking his weay out of Philadelphia.

Green Out For Season

Oct 12, 2014 4:35 PM

Packers running back Ahman Green is out for the season with a torn thigh tendon, the latest in a string of severe injuries to befall Green Bay. Coach Mike Sherman said Monday that Green will undergo surgery this week to repair his right thigh tendon, which was torn in the fourth quarter of the Packers' 23-20 loss at Minnesota on Sunday. Sherman also said wide receiver Robert Ferguson will miss up to a month with a torn lateral cruciate ligament in his left knee, which he injured in the first quarter Sunday. Green, who struggled this season after four straight trips to the Pro Bowl, went down hard on his right knee when he was tackled by linebacker E.J. Henderson with 8 minutes left and was carted off the field. He sustained the same injury on Oct. 3 and sat out the following game against New Orleans. He gained 49 yards on 16 carries against the Vikings.

Running back Ahman Green and wide receiver Robert Ferguson were both carted off the field with severe left leg injuries against the Vikings. Green was hurt in the fourth quarter when he ran off right tackle and was hit by linebacker E.J. Henderson. He immediately grabbed his left knee in pain and had to be lifted onto the cart to be taken to the locker room for X-rays. Coach Mike Sherman said Green aggravated the injury that kept him out of the Packers' victory over New Orleans on Oct. 9. Both Green and Ferguson will be re-evaluated Monday.

Davenport Out For The Year

Running back Najeh Davenport will miss the rest of the season after breaking his ankle on Sunday. "I hated to see that; I was probably more mad than he was," Ahman Green, whose injury gave Davenport a chance to start Sunday, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "He did exactly what was expected of him. For him to go in there and play like he did, and then get hurt, it sucks." Davenport rushed for 54 yards and two touchdowns before being injured on a reception in the second quarter.

Packers' Terrence Murphy Taken Off Field On A Stretcher

Jun 14, 2014 12:44 PM

Green Bay receiver Terrence Murphy was taken off the field on a stretcher in the second quarter of Monday night's game against the Carolina Panthers. Murphy had just picked up a fumbled kick return and turned up field to run with it when he was tackled by Carolina's Thomas Davis. It appeared to be a helmet-to-helmet hit and Murphy folded awkwardly as he collapsed to the ground. He lay motionless on the field surrounded by medical personnel for several minutes as some of his teammates kneeled in prayer. The Packers said Murphy was alert and awake in the locker room with movement in his limbs, but was complaining of numbness and tingling. He was transported to Carolina's Medical Center for further evaluation.
