Another Holdout Bluff Called

Nov 8, 2014 1:30 PM

Despite his earlier suggestions he might not play at all in 2005 without a new contract, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Javon Walker on Wednesday night reported to training camp and is ready to participate in all workouts, ESPN.com has learned. It was not immediately clear how the conflict between Walker and the Packers was resolved, although sources confirmed there have been conversations the past few days between Green Bay vice president Andrew Brandt and agent Drew Rosenhaus. Walker's contract, which has two seasons remaining at base salaries of $515,000 for 2005 and $650,000 in 2006, has not been altered.

Walker Will Be A No-Show If No Raise Is Given

Nov 8, 2014 1:31 PM

Javon Walker will be a no-show at training camp next week unless the Green Bay Packers agree to give the Pro Bowl receiver a big pay raise or trade him, his agent said Wednesday. "The Packers say they aren't going to change their position, so we are leaning that way. We're hoping for a change of heart or a trade," Drew Rosenhaus told The Associated Press. Packers general manager Ted Thompson did not immediately return a call to the AP for comment. Rosenhaus said the Packers have refused to negotiate with him ever since he first approached the team this spring to tear up Walker's current contract, which has two years remaining and calls for him to make $515,000 this season. "I haven't had very many holdouts in my career, but I've been unable to get the Packers to commit to any discussion of a new deal," Rosenhaus said. "The Packers have refused to negotiate with us. They expect him to play the year out." Rosenhaus said that won't happen. "I can't let this player go out on the field and jeopardize his career for that kind of money. I just can't fathom it," he said in an interview with HBO taped last Friday and scheduled to air next week.

Couch And Packers Come To Terms, Additional Cap Room Opens Up

The Green Bay Packers blew $625,000 in signing bonus last year on quarterback Tim Couch, but a favorable settlement this spring of his grievance against the team ended with a quasi-happy ending. In fact, the Packers have an additional $214,206 under their adjusted salary cap of $86.227 million for 2005 after the two sides agreed to settle Couch's grievance shortly before it was to be resolved through arbitration.

Rosenhaus Responds To Favre Comments

Nov 8, 2014 1:30 PM

Agent Drew Rosenhaus, partly responsible for a myriad of holdouts currently taking place throughout the NFL, recently received some criticism from Packers quarterback Brett Favre over the holdout of teammate Javon Walker. "I'd hate to walk into the locker room every day and know I turned my back on the players," Favre said on the ESPN show "Cold Pizza." "Ultimately the player has to make a decision. The agent can make a recommendation, but you can say yeah or no. "If you're going to listen to your agent and let him tell you everything and you go by it, I mean, you have to step up for yourself and your team. The money is out there to be had. When a contract is signed you understand that if you play well, maybe in time they'll renegotiate." Rosenhaus was quick to respond to Favre?s comments. "I wish he would call me so we could talk and I could let him know the facts," Rosenhaus said. "I think there are a lot of things he doesn't know about our situation. There are a lot of things he needs to know."

Packers? Jackson The Latest To Bring On Rosenhaus

Nov 8, 2014 1:35 PM

Green Bay nose tackle Grady Jackson is the latest to hire on agent Drew Rosenhaus and with the move, Jackson is seeking a new contract. According to Rosenhaus, Jackson is "very dissatisfied" with his current deal and probably won't report to training camp if the Packers don't rework it. Jackson, 32, has one year left on a two-year, $2.31 million extension he signed at the end of the 2003 season. Rosenhaus is well known for having his clients skip workouts in order to get a better contract. "That's a consideration, definitely," Rosenhaus said of a Jackson holdout. "Obviously, he wouldn't have changed agents if things had been going well. It seems he hasn't made the progress he wants to and that's why he hired me. He reached out to me."
