Lions Getting Closer To Starting 1st Round Pick Riley Reiff

Oct 31, 2014 7:36 AM

Offensive tackle Riley Reiff continues to have his role expanded, but it is unclear when he will first start for the Detroit Lions.

Reiff was the Lions' first round pick in 2012.

"He's getting close," Scott Linehan said. "I don't know what that day will be. A lot of times, the situation or the game takes care of that. We're getting a lot of good production out of a rookie player and I think he's gaining confidence with his time on the field right now."

Calvin Johnson Staying Patient Despite Lack Of Touchdowns

Nov 24, 2014 5:45 PM

Calvin Johnson has just one touchdown through the first five games of the 2012 season.

But Johnson isn't frustrated by his lack of scoring production.

"Nah, not really," Johnson said. "If I was dropping a bunch of touchdown passes, yeah. The (defensive) coverage can dictate a lot of things. It'll come. As long as we're able to help out moving the ball down the field, that's all that matters right now.

"As long as we continue to get these Ws (wins). The bigger thing is getting that ball up and down the field, so we can get into the end zone in the first half."

Stafford Blames Execution For Early Game Struggles

Nov 27, 2014 5:04 AM

The Detroit Lions have experienced slow starts throughout the 2012 season.

Matthew Stafford believes the issue has simply been execution and not a flaw in aggressiveness.

"We were aggressive in the first couple quarters," Stafford said in an interview with 97.1-FM. "I missed a couple guys. I missed Tony Scheffler on the fingertips on a play early in the game, missed a pump seven to Titus (Young) that was off his fingertips, missed another pump seven to Calvin (Johnson). I mean, we were pushing the ball down the field, throwing it all over the place. It just got to a point in the second half where we just executed better."
