Titus Young Purposely Lined Up Wrong Against Packers

Jul 8, 2014 10:00 AM

Titus Young returned to practice on Wednesday for the first time since being sent hom on Nov. 19 for repeated acts of insubordination.

Jim Schwartz said it’s “too soon to tell” whether Young will be active for Sunday’s game against the Colts.

Young spent about 15 minutes after practice catching balls off a JUGS machine and declined an interview request when he entered the locker room.

In a loss to the Packers two weeks ago, he purposely lined up in the wrong spot on the field multiple times and mouthed off to receivers coach Shawn Jefferson on the sideline.

NFL Declines To Suspend Suh For Kick On Schuab

Oct 24, 2014 5:49 PM

The NFL has decided not to suspend Ndamukong Suh for his kick of Matt Schaub last week.

"Our office has notified the Lions that Suh will not be suspended for last Thursday's incident. It will be reviewed for a potential fine," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello tweeted Monday.

Suh has had previous incidents that made a suspension in this case more likely than it would have been for other players.

NFL May Change Challenge Rule Immediately

Oct 31, 2014 11:20 AM

The NFL is considering a change to its challenge rule where the booth does not review a scoring play when the coach has mistakenly challenged it.

Jim Schwartz cost the Lions a touchdown when he challenged a run from Justin Forsett on Thanksgiving.

The NFL typically prefers to address rule changes during the offseason, but it could be rescinded during the season or for the playoffs.

Schwartz Admits Overreacting In Throwing Challenge Flag

Oct 2, 2014 5:29 PM

Justin Forsett's 81-yard touchdown in which his left knee and forearm touched the ground was allowed to stand because Jim Schwartz threw a challenge flag.

The NFL automatically reviews all scoring plays, but those plays become unreviewable once a cocah tries to initiate a challenge.

"Yeah, I know that rule," Schwartz said. "You can't challenge a turnover or a scoring play and I overreacted. I was so mad that they didn't call him down 'cause he was obviously down on the field. I had the flag out of my pocket before he even scored the touchdown. That's all my fault. I overreacted in that situation and I cost us a touchdown."

Schwartz yelled at Jim Harbaugh to "know the rules" when Harbaugh tried to challenge a non-reviewable play in a game at Ford Field last year.

Lions' Receivers Coach Confronts OC Linehan

Aug 22, 2014 4:12 AM

Detroit Lions receivers coach Shawn Jefferson was seen yelling at offensive coordinator Scott Linehan during the fourth quarter of the team's 24-20 loss to the Packers.

"I'd rather not go into it," Jim Schwartz said. "Everybody was disappointed not to be able to score a touchdown on that last drive."

Schwartz believes Detroit's lack of execution is to blame, not Linehan.

"We weren't clicking," Schwartz said. "We had a couple of times where we misfired on passes. A couple of times we had chances and dropped ball. A couple of times we had miscommunication and route adjustment. We didn't do a good enough job. We didn't do a good enough job pass protecting either.

"So yeah, our passing game definitely wasn't clicking. Give some credit to the Packers. They played a lot of tight match coverage."

Lions Reducing Offensive Menu

Oct 31, 2014 11:10 AM

Alan Williams, defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, said the Detroit Lions have "narrowed down" their offensive menu over the past few weeks.

"They've streamlined what they're doing," Williams said. "Not a lot of formations like we saw last time [in Week 4]. They are sticking to a package and doing that well."

But the Lions have not become conservative. Matthew Stafford has nine attempts that have traveled at least 21 yards in the air over the past three weeks.

The Lions are simply running a wide array of plays with the same personnel packages.

Calvin Johnson Playing Through Nerve Damage

Jul 25, 2014 11:41 AM

Calvin Johnson has been playing with nerve damage side effects since facing the Vikings in Week 3.

"Actually, I had some nerve damage, so that was kind of messing up my grip a little bit," Johnson said. "Not to blame it on that, but I think that a concussion maybe could have had something to do with some of that damage I had going on."

Johnson was the victim of a brutal helmet-to-helmet collision with Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway.

Johnson has been feeling a shooting pain in his arm since that game, which has affected his ability to hold a football.

"Taking those hits, they're real violent," Johnson said. "They definitely have a lot of lingering impact on whether it be your neck, your head in Jahvid's (Best) case. It can do a lot of stuff."
