Jones Says He Wasn't Criticizing Dallas Coaching Staff

Oct 1, 2014 2:52 PM

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones suggested that rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant's ankle injury was a result of his workload. Jones doesn't regret the comment, but said that it wasn't meant to rip the team's coaching staff. Bryant suffered a high-ankle sprain on the second-to-last play of Friday's practice and is out four to six weeks. "I'm not being critical," Jones said Saturday. "What I'm being is analytical, or trying to be analytical. "This is when you all sit down and look at everything you're doing and see if there's some things you can do to help protect your team better, especially during this time five to six weeks away from the opening game."

Cowboys Say Shoulder Pad Saga Is Non-Issue

Aug 3, 2014 1:58 PM

The Cowboys discussed rookie Dez Bryant's refusal to carry veteran Roy Williams' shoulder pads during a Monday meeting and declared it a non-issue. Bryant jogged off the field after practice, wearing his shoulder pads and carrying nobody else's. He did not speak with the media for the first time during camp. "If he doesn't want to take the pads, he doesn't have to take the pads," Williams said. "It's not a big deal. We'll just move on. "We talked about it. He wants to concentrate on football. We're going to let him concentrate on football. But, when we go out to eat, I'm gonna be a little bit more hungry and a little bit more thirsty."

Bryant Refuses To Carry Pads For Williams

Dec 1, 2014 3:54 AM

Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant refuses to take part in the NFL rite of passage that says rookies will carry the pads of the team's veterans. "I'm not doing it," Bryant said. "I feel like I was drafted to play football, not carry another player's pads." "If I was a free agent, it would still be the same thing. I just feel like I'm here to play football. I'm here to try to help win a championship, not carry someone's pads. I'm saying that out of no disrespect to [anyone]." Bryant refused to carry the pads of Roy Williams specifically. "Everybody has to go through it," Williams said. "I had to go through it. No matter if you're a No. 1 pick or the 7,000th pick, you've still got to do something when you're a rookie. "I carried pads. I paid for dinners. I paid for lunches. I did everything I was supposed to do, because I didn't want to be that guy."

Romo: Super Bowl Is Goal For Cowboys

Jun 11, 2014 7:49 AM

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo won't make any predictions for the upcoming NFL season, but admitted that the Super Bowl is the team's goal. "I think everybody who lines up and plays this game envisions every season that they play where they'd like to be at the end of the year," Romo said. "You wouldn't be the competitor or have that attitude if you didn't think your team had a chance or individually you would have a chance to play in a Super Bowl one day. That's the way we line up every time we go out to work in the 100 degree heat. That's why we do all those things in the off-season so that one day you can play in that." Romo continually talks about the "process" and the "journey" a team or individual has to take each year to be successful. "Expectations are predominately because you've done something right at some point," Romo said, "so if they think you have a chance, then you've probably shown people that it's possible. There's a lot of work to be done and we have a long way to go, but it was a good start today. I know this, I feel like a kid who just went to summer camp when you go play basketball or football. It's all just really fun and enjoyable."
