Garrett Under Pressure To Deliver

Jul 4, 2014 11:49 PM

Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett could be on the hot seat this season if the team doesn't deliver offensively. Kevin Sherrington of the Dallas Morning News writes that while Garrett is being groomed as the team's next head coach, he could fall out of favor. "The general feeling seems to be that Jason will be the next head coach, and I've got no reason to argue with that. He has all the weapons now, if the offensive line holds up. If the offense doesn't deliver this year, I could see Garrett falling from favor," Sherrington wrote.

Miles Austin Still Waiting To Sign Tender

Aug 3, 2014 12:50 AM

Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin didn't sign his tender on Friday, meaning when the Cowboys return to work on Tuesday the club will in effect re-tender him at $3.168 million to retain his exclusive rights for 2010. Dallas already put the first- and third-round tender on Austin back in March. Starting on June 15, however, the Cowboys can reduce their offer to 110 percent of Austin's 2009 salary and continue to hold on to his exclusive rights. He made $1.5 million in 2009.

Raiders May Have Joint Camp With Cowboys Instead Of 49ers

May 17, 2014 12:16 AM

The Raiders are considering joining the Cowboys for joint training camp practices this summer, according to an Oakland player. Oakland plays at Dallas on Aug. 12, after the Cowboys break camp in San Antonio and before they move camp to Oxnard. If the teams agree to a joint deal, it could end up being in Dallas itself. A Raiders official declined comment. The past two years, the Raiders hosted the 49ers in Napa for two days of camp.

Jones Hints Barber Will Start For Cowboys

Jan 26, 2014 11:51 PM

Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones indicated Tuesday that Marion Barber will likely remain the team's starting running back. Jones had previously stated concerned over Barber's effectiveness late in games if he started. "I know this: He looks quicker," Jones said of Barber. "I think that is going to make him even more effective. He's just in great shape. He looks as good out here just in these initial practices as I've seen him look in his career. You could easily go from there and look at what his role might be, and it'd certainly be on par with anything he's done." Barber has been a starter since signing a big contract before the 2008 season.

Miles Austin Focused On Play, Not Contract

Jul 4, 2014 8:21 PM

Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin is more concerned with his play than his contract status. "Jerry is the guy you need to speak to about that," Austin told the Dallas Morning News. "I'm doing my part and that's working hard and trying to get better to help the team." Austin added that he wouldn't be nervous if a new deal isn't in place by training camp. "No, not at all," he said. "I mean, like I said, I'm just in here to work. I'm going to let Dave Dunn deal with all that type of stuff. I'm just working to get better. "Whatever the situation, I still have to work and become a better player regardless."

North Texas Sets Sights On Super Bowl L

Jul 4, 2014 6:01 PM

The North Texas Super Bowl committee plans to make a pitch to bring the Super Bowl back to Cowboys Stadium in 2016. "I think we're in line to do that," Hall of Fame Roger Staubach said Monday. "We're definitely planning on going after future Super Bowls." Staubach said the North Texas committee can't make a bid for another Super Bowl until after hosting its first this season. "The NFL is going to be proud of this stadium and what it means to fans and the capabilities of what we can do in this stadium," Staubach said. "Even the New York stadium I've heard is really nice, but it's not as nice as this stadium. This stadium is really special, and North Texas loves football. "I think the owners are going to feel really good about the atmosphere and our commitment. And we're going to schmooze the heck out of the owners. They have our attention."

Staubach: Cowboys Can Make Super Bowl

Nov 25, 2014 7:50 AM

Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach believes that the Cowboys can become the first team to play a Super Bowl in their home stadium. "I didn't want to jinx them about the Super Bowl being here, but that would be fun," Staubach said. "That would be extra special. And it could happen." Next February's Super Bowl will be held in Dallas. "This is a really, really good football team and they have the capability," Staubach said. "There are probably five or six teams in the NFL that can win it all. This is one of them. They can do it. "It's a matter of giving that little extra and fighting, and I think they have that attitude, too. The way it transpired at the end of the year in the Minnesota game was rough, but they really were a team at the end of the year, and I think they're even better this year."
