Jerry Jones Apologizes To Fans

Oct 31, 2014 4:47 AM

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones apologized to fans and asked for patience after the team's loss to the Jaguars on Sunday. "I'm embarrassed. Of course I am," Jones said Sunday. "And, to every fan, I should have and do take the ultimate, ultimate responsibility. I do. That's the way we're structured. That's the way I run it. There's no question that I have the plan and executing it to have the best players and the best coaching that we can have. I'm dumbfounded that we are 1-7." Jones misspoke. The Cowboys are actually 1-6. "You couldn't get me to say it, but you know that I thought we had a team here that could be one of the top competitive teams in the NFL," Jones continued. "I'm very, very, very sorry to our fans. You should have better than this. "You can tell by the way some of the things that we've done to certainly make the Cowboys everything you want them to be, you should be able to tell that I won't rest until we've figured some things out to get us in a different spot. ... What it is, I don't have that."

Record May Decide If Romo Returns This Season

Oct 15, 2014 11:42 PM

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says there is a chance that Tony Romo could miss the remainder of the season. Romo broke his collarbone on Monday night and will miss six-to-eight weeks. Dallas is 1-5 and it appears likely that they will be eliminated from the postseason before Romo is ready to return. "We'll just see what the circumstances are at that time," Jones said. "We'll see how well we're playing. They remember what you do in November. That is an old college saying that my coach used to say all the time. "If we have an opportunity to have a good taste by the team playing well, have a good taste in our mouths ... then even if you're out of an opportunity to be in the playoffs, you want to be playing good."

Sep 11, 2014 7:14 PM

Cowboys backup quarterback Jon Kitna to set to take over the starting role in the wake of Tony Romo's collarbone injury. Romo broke his collarbone on Monday night against the Giants and is expected to miss approximately eight weeks. "I am prepared to lead this football team for however many weeks that is," Kitna said. "It is not something that I am scared of or anything like that. I wish that this opportunity didn't come because I think it's bad for Tony (Romo), it's bad for this football team for that to happen. But, it's here and I have confidence in myself and confidence in my teammates that we'll get some things ironed out. We'll start seeing things on the same wavelength and we will be fine moving forward."

Joe Namath Rips Cowboys

May 12, 2014 12:32 PM

Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath doesn't like what he sees in the Cowboys. Speaking on his weekly Sirius NFL Radio show, Namath ripped the Cowboys for their lack of focus, uneven effort, poor football intelligence and diva-like attitudes. "Their focus has been horrendous," Namath said. "You look at the number of penalties and breakdowns they've had, their head's not in the game, it really isn't. The smarter teams come out on top, the teams that don't destroy themselves. "And the Cowboys have not learned how to focus on the team in the locker room, and outside issues not interfering with their play. And that's what's happened. I really believe they all feel like they're big stars and they're not working as hard as they think they are."

Cowboys May Bring In Refs To Fix Penalty Problems

Sep 11, 2014 7:13 PM

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips says the team may bring in referees to help fix their troublesome penalty issue. Dallas is tied with Tennessee for third in the NFL with 49 penalties, and the offense leads the league with 30. During preseason, referees come to NFL training camps for a few days to go over new rules changes and to help offenses determine if formations are set up correctly and if players are onsides or offsides. "We may. That's a possibility," Phillips said. "The officials we get [during camp], all they do is stand there and watch and see if we line up onside or offside. ... But there are some other things we're going to explore."
