Bengals Release Andy Dalton

Apr 30, 2020 11:24 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals will release Andy Dalton after nine seasons with the career.

Dalton was the Bengals' primary starter since he was a second round pick in 2011. Dalton led the Bengals to the playoffs in five seasons.

The Bengals drafted Joe Burrow first overall and will supplant the 32-year-old Dalton.

The Bengals tried to trade Dalton before he was released. Dalton finished 2019 with a Total QBR of 40.1, which ranked 27th out of 30 qualifying quarterbacks

Bengals Rejected Miami's Offers For No. 1 Pick

Apr 23, 2020 9:06 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals have rebuffed the Miami Dolphins multiple times regarding a trade for the No. 1 overall pick, according to league sources.

The Dolphins called more than once over the past few weeks but were told there was no chance the Bengals would move the selection, which they'll use on Joe Burrow.

Miami has three first-round picks -- Nos. 5, 18 and 26. They also have an NFL-high 14 total selections this year.

The Cincinnati Bengals have informed Joe Burrow they intend to select him first overall in Thursday's draft.

“We talked to a lot of guys, but certainly formed a really good relationship with Joe, and have been really impressed with everything we’ve seen from him," said Bengals head coach Zac Taylor on ESPN Wednesday morning.

Burrow will watch the draft at his house in The Plains, Ohio.

Peyton Manning To Joe Burrow: Learn From Tough Rookie Year

Apr 20, 2020 8:29 AM

Peyton Manning believes Joe Burrow will struggle at times in his rookie year, but that the quarterback must learn from those tough times.

Manning told SportsCenter on Sunday that Burrow recently called him for advice on being a rookie quarterback.

Burrow also attended the Manning Passing Academy last summer.

"He called me about some of the things that I tried to do as a rookie that maybe he can apply to his NFL career," Manning said. "Looks like it's going to be for the Cincinnati Bengals. What I told him, 'Look, Joe, if you're the first pick in the NFL draft, you are going to a team that has earned the first pick in the NFL draft. There are going to be some holes there. There's a reason the Colts were picking No. 1 that year. There's a reason the Bengals are picking No. 1 this year.'"

Manning pointed out that he lost more games in his rookie year than he had in his high school and college careers combined.

"[Then-Colts coach] Jim Mora never took me out," he said. "I learned some things in the fourth quarter of those blowouts about what it took to be an NFL quarterback, and the next year we went from 3-13 to 13-3. That wouldn't have happened if I hadn't have hung in there and learned the ropes as a rookie, even though we took some bumps and bruises.

"So that's what I tried to encourage Joe and all the other rookie quarterbacks, that your rookie year is not going to be the same as your senior year in college. But if you learn how fast the defensive backs are, how soon you have to get rid of the ball, understand defenses, you can become a better player and really get it going the year or two after that."

Zac Taylor Doesn't See Bengals Trading No. 1 Pick

Apr 14, 2020 8:39 AM

Zac Taylor doesn't see a scenario in which the Cincinnati Bengals trade the No. 1 pick in next week's NFL Draft.

"It doesn't look that way. If there is a guy there that you believe in that can really change the franchise over the next 10-15 years, then that's a hard thing to pass up on," Taylor said on The Dan Patrick Show.

"You know, people all the time ask me what would it take to give up that pick and if there's somebody there that people are willing to give up a lot for, that they believe in, then that just really verifies what we think about those players as well."

There were faint rumors that a team like the Miami Dolphins, with three first-round picks, could offer a significant package for the top selection.

The Bengals are expected to select Joe Burrow.
