Patrick Mahomes Fastest To Reach 25,000 Passing Yards

Sep 25, 2023 12:23 AM

Patrick Mahomes became the fastest NFL quarterback to reach 25,000 career passing yards, and he got there on Sunday in a fitting manner.

The Chiefs signal-caller went over the milestone on one of his longest passes of the day, a 37-yard throw to Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the third quarter of Kansas City's 41-10 win over the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium.

DC Alan Williams Left Bears Over Inappropriate Activity

Sep 24, 2023 3:27 PM

Alan Williams resigned as Chicago Bears defensive coordinator last week in part because of inappropriate activity, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Williams was not involved in any criminal activity, sources told Schefter, but the Bears' human resources department was part of the process that culminated in his abrupt resignation Wednesday.

A digital forensic search was conducted as part of Williams' resignation, according to sources, who added that such a process was part of the team's standard operating procedure.

Report: Bears Re-Sign Nathan Peterman

Sep 21, 2023 8:52 AM

The Chicago Bears have re-signed Nathan Peterman to the active roster after releasing the quarterback on Wednesday.

It's not clear if this was always the plan or if the Bears were thinking about making another move that didn't wind up happening.

Tyson Bagent, an undrafted rookie, has been the emergency third quarterback for the first two weeks of the season and Peterman's return will likely keep him in that role for this Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Justin Fields Points To Bears' Coaching For 'Robotic' Play

Sep 21, 2023 8:42 AM

Justin Fields put the blame on the Chicago Bears' coaching staff for his "robotic" play through the first two games of the season.

"You know, could be coaching, I think," Fields said when asked about what has caused him to overthink. "At the end of the day, they are doing their job when they are giving me what to look at, but at the end of the day, I can't be thinking about that when the game comes. I prepare myself throughout the week, and then when the game comes, it's time to play free at that point. Thinking less and playing more."

Fields said he hopes to alter his approach against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 so he can play more like himself.

"My goal this week is just to say F it and go out there and play football how I know to play football," Fields said. "That includes thinking less and just going out there and playing off of instincts rather than so much, say, info in my head, data in my head. Just literally going out there and playing football. Going back to it's a game and that's it.

"That's when I play my best, when I'm just out there playing free and being myself, so I'm going to, say, kind of bump all the what I should, this and that, pocket stuff. I'm going to go out there and be me."

Alan Williams Steps Down As Defensive Coordinator Of Bears

Sep 20, 2023 4:50 PM

Alan Williams has stepped down as defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears.

"I am taking a step back to take care of my health and family. I appreciate the opportunity to work with the Chicago Bears, a storied NFL franchise with a rich history," Williams said in a statement.

"I value the NFL shield and all that it stands for and after taking some time to address my health, I plan to come back and coach again," he added.

Williams, 53, has been away from the Bears since last week with what the team classified as a personal reason.

Chase Claypool's Status Shaky After Disappointing Opener For Bears

Sep 14, 2023 7:45 AM

Chase Claypool is in jeopardy of being inactive Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after a lackluster Week 1 performance for the Chicago Bears.

Claypool was targeted twice by Justin Fields, and both passes resulted in incompletions. More notably, he missed a number of blocking assignments and video showed an apparent lack of effort on the wide receiver's part.

"You all saw the plays that ... and again, the perimeter blocking needed to improve for all of us," Matt Eberflus said. "And we're gonna get that, work hard to get that done."

Claypool practiced without limitations during the two weeks leading up to the game after injuring his hamstring in early August.

Eberflus said that Claypool had "displayed good technique in practice" on his blocking, which is why coaches put him in position to do so in Week 1.

Bears List Nathan Peterman As QB2 Behind Justin Fields

Sep 6, 2023 7:21 AM

The Chicago Bears are going with Nathan Peterman as their backup quarterback behind starter Justin Fields.

Peterman had been battling with rookie Tyson Bagent for the No. 2 role.

Peterman, 29, was a part of the Bears' initial cuts when the roster was trimmed from 90 to 53 players last week. He was re-signed to the active roster Thursday.

Bagent, the only Division II quarterback to make a 53-man roster leaguewide, initially beat out Peterman and PJ Walker for a roster spot after a strong preseason campaign.
