Justin Fields Worried About Wins, Not Next Contract

May 24, 2023 9:44 AM

Justin Fields will be eligible for a contract extension after the 2023 season, but the quarterback insists he's more worried about winning games.

All rookies are extension eligible after their third season, while teams can exercise fifth-year options on first-round draft picks.

"I'm not worried about contracts, I'm worried about wins," Fields said. "I could care less."

Fields completed 60.4% of his passes for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 15 games for the Chicago Bears in 2022.

Bears OC: Justin Fields 'Light-Years Ahead' Of This Time Last Year

May 8, 2023 9:07 AM

As the Chicago Bears prepare to open offseason workouts with a revamped offense, coordinator Luke Getsy says Justin Fields has already shown impressive growth.

"Where he was at this time last year to where he is now, I think he's just light-years ahead of where he was," Getsy said. "And I feel like he has a ton more to grow going forward. So we're excited to try to get the best out of him moving forward and keep working toward where we think he can go."

Though the offseason is still in its early phases, Fields is already putting in the hours to improve his play from 2022, with Matt Eberflus seconding his OC's assertion that Fields is showing visible improvement in key areas.

"Part of that (needed improvement) is rhythm and timing. That's the footwork with Justin," Eberflus said. "He's been working on that really, really good in terms of the quick pass, dropback pass, movement pass, and he's really made some big strides in that area coming in so far -- on his own and now coming into the phase two (of the offseason), that first week."
