Oct 4, 2014 5:28 AM

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler began working out with a handful of offensive teammates on Tuesday, according to a league source. The group, which included roughly eight skill position players, took part in a workout which included running routes. "It's important," coach Lovie Smith said during an interview on ESPN when told Cutler had planned the workouts. "The skill guys can get together, but what's really important right now is all of our players are out working out."

Cutler, Bears Have Yet To Hold Workouts

Jul 8, 2014 4:32 PM

While many teams around the league have organized workouts during the NFL lockout, Bears backup quarterback Caleb Hanie told "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000 that the team has no plans to gather. "We've exchanged e-mails with numerous guys, just back and forth, talking about it," Hanie said. "But we really just want to make sure that if we do have something -- or when we do have something -- that it's very beneficial and not just a waste of time. "You don't want to get everybody together and just goof around. Everything is just in flux. We're just trying to wait it out and see what happens (with the labor negotiations), but it's not looking to good for the next month or so, so we'll see here in the near future." Hanie told the station that he's heard nothing from starter Jay Cutler about plans to get together as a team. "I've talked to him a few times this offseason, and I haven't heard anything from him on that front, so far," Hanie said. "I don't know if he has something planned or whatever, but not yet."

Martz Has No Hard Feelings Towards Bears

Sep 9, 2014 9:15 AM

It was reported last week that Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz turned down a contract extension from the team. However, Martz has no hard feelings towards the organization. "I have a representative in Bob LaMonte who's the best at what he does," Martz said. "I just do whatever he tells me to. "He doesn't tell me how to coach, and I don't tell him how to negotiate. But he knows how badly I want to be here, and I would like an extension. I don't worry about it. I'm sure it'll work out."

After Draft, Bears Still Looking For Receiver

Oct 4, 2014 5:30 AM

The 2011 NFL Draft came and went without the Bears adding a big-play wide receiver. The Chicago Sun-Times writes that the team will have to wait for the league calender to resume in order to add a big-time receiver. "We prepared for free agency to open at the appropriate time," general manager Jerry Angelo said. "There is a lot of work to do in free agency given the number of players, and we feel real good about our free-agency plan as well. "In some cases, our draft helped that [and] altered our course in a positive way." There will be no shortage of receivers available via free agency once it begins -- Braylon Edwards, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Randy Moss and Terrell Owens are just a few.

Ravens Not Ready To Let Go Of Failed Trade

Apr 2, 2014 1:09 PM

The NFL has ruled that no trade was completed between the Ravens and Bears during the first round of the draft on Thursday night, but Baltimore isn't ready to let go. "The trade was not consummated," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in an e-mail. "Therefore, there was no trade. "Anything further with respect to it would be between the clubs." Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti is still uspet. "I'm disappointed in the Bears and the McCaskeys," Bisciotti told the Baltimore Sun. "It is, in my opinion, a deviation from their great legacy. They concluded that their heartfelt and admirable apology was sufficient for our loss. "All of us at the Ravens strongly disagree."
