The New England Patriots have claimed former Carolina Panthers QB Matt Corral, a source confirmed to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, giving New England a second quarterback behind starter Mac Jones on the 53-man roster.

On Tuesday Corral felt he had made Carolina's 53-man roster, saying he couldn't wait to get in the quarterback room with Bryce Young, the top pick of the 2023 draft, and veteran Andy Dalton. But the 2022 third-round pick out of Ole Miss was released on Wednesday.

The Carolina Panthers have acquired wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The teams exchanged conditional seventh-round picks as part of the deal. 

Smith-Marsette had nine receptions for 195 yards and two touchdowns in three preseason games with the Chiefs.

He was a fifth-round pick of the Chicago Bears in 2021.

Miles Sanders says he "absolutely" will be ready for the Carolina Panthers' Sept. 10 opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

Sanders, who signed with the Panthers in free agency, missed the past few weeks of training camp with a groin injury that sidelined him for the first two preseason games.

He practiced in full pads Monday and Tuesday and showed no signs that the injury will be a problem moving forward.

The Carolina Panthers will play No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young and the rest of their starters in their final preseason game.

Young has attempted 12 passes through the first two weeks and Frank Reich said on Monday that they "still want to get more reps" for the first team before the start of the regular season. 

Reich said the Panthers will "play it by ear" when it comes to how much Young and company will be playing as they try to ensure that they are ready to roll against the Atlanta Falcons on September 11.

The New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams rank second and third at $7.04 billion and $6.98 billion respectively. The New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers round out the top-5.

Carolina Panthers rookie Bryce Young will start Saturday's preseason opener against the New York Jets.

Frank Reich did not commit to how many snaps or series the No. 1 overall pick would play.

"I do have an idea," Reich said. "There is flexibility in the plan. There has to be. That's just being smart about it. We have a general idea how many plays we want to get through the whole preseason, but that can be adjusted by 10 or 20 percent depending on how things go."

Aaron Rodgers isn't expected to play for the Jets.

The Carolina Panthers have signed Justin Houston on a one-year deal worth up to $7 million.

Houston is a four-time Pro Bowl defender who had a resurgent season for the Baltimore Ravens in 2022. He produced 9.5 sacks but his production trailed off as the season progressed. 

Houston played for Reich in Indianapolis in 2019-20, collecting a combined 19 sacks during those two seasons.
