The Carolina Panthers have hired Brad Idzik as offensive coordinator, but head coach Dave Canales will call plays.

Prior to last season, Idzik spent four seasons with Canales in Seattle as the assistant wide receivers coach.

Canales is tasked with improving the play of Bryce Young. Canales helped Baker Mayfield go from last in the NFL in Total QBR (26.2) in 2022 with Carolina and the Los Angeles Rams to 18th this past season (54.4).

The Carolina Panthers will hire Dave Canales as head coach.

Canales was most recently offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Carolina Panthers have promoted Dan Morgan to president of football operations/general manager.

Morgan was the assistant general manager under Scott Fitterer. 

Morgan spent seven seasons as a linebacker for the Panthers after being selected in the first round of the 2001 draft (11th overall) out of Miami.

"Dan has a thorough knowledge of our football personnel and a clear vision to take us where we all want to go,'' Carolina owner David Tepper said in a statement. "We know he will attack this opportunity with the same intensity he did as a Panthers player.''

Raheem Morris is one of the top head coaching candidates on the market and has second in-person interviews upcoming with the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks.

Morris was head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009 until 2011. Morris has been defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams since 2021.

The NFL has designated the four teams that will give up a home game in 2024 and host a game in Europe instead -- the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars and Minnesota Vikings.

The Bears, Jaguars and Vikings will each host a game in London, while the Panthers will host a game in Munich. 

Opponents and dates will be announced along with the rest of the NFL schedule in the spring.

The NFL will not play in Mexico City due to renovations at Estadio Azteca. But the league previously announced plans to play a 2024 game at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil. 

The Carolina Panthers have fired general manager Scott Fitterer, according to a source.

Fitterer was hired prior to the 2021 season.

"As we move forward with the new direction for our franchise, I have made the decision that Scott Fitterer will no longer serve as our general manager," owner David Tepper said in a statement. "I appreciate Scott's efforts and wish the best for him and his family."

Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper has been fined $300,000 by the NFL for what the league called his "unacceptable conduct" during the team's 26-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Tepper was caught on video throwing a drink in the direction of Jaguars fans from his open-air suite at Jacksonville's EverBank Stadium.

"All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL," the league said in a statement.

Tepper in a statement said he is "passionate" about his team but regrets his behavior.

David Pepper was caught on video apparently showing a drink in the direction of fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars during the Carolina Panthers' 26-0 loss. With the loss, the Panthers will finish the season with the worst record in the NFL but they've traded the selection to the Chicago Bears.

A Panthers spokesperson declined to comment. NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said the league is "aware of the video" and has "no further comment at this time."

Tepper paid $2.75 billion for the organization in 2018.

Tepper has fired three head coaches in-season since 2019, including Frank Reich after a 1-10 start to this season and Matt Rhule after a 1-4 start last season.

The Chicago Bears clinched the top overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft following the Carolina Panthers' 26-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Bears traded away the No. 1 pick in last year's draft to the Panthers in exchange for DJ Moore, first and second round pics in 2023, a first rounder in 2024 and a second rounder in 2025.

The Panthers finished the 2022 season with a 7-10 record, but Bryce Young largely struggled as their starting quarterback.

The Bears have a decision to make regarding the future of Justin Fields as holders of the first overall pick. Caleb Williams is considered the most probable selection at No. 1.
