Cam Newton Finds MVP Race 'Irrelevant Right Now'

Dec 27, 2015 12:18 AM

Cam Newton is a clear frontrunner to win MVP, but he isn't concerned with actually winning the award.

"It's irrelevant to me right now," Newton said this week of the MVP race.

The Carolina Panthers remain undefeated.

"It's a culmination of guys making plays and (me) feeling comfortable in the pocket. Everybody is doing their job," Newton said. "Offensive football is the ultimate team sport. You need all 11 members to do their job."

Newton leads the NFL with 40 touchdowns (33 passing, seven rushing).

Ron Rivera Bans Panthers From Bringing Bats Onto Field

Dec 22, 2015 3:52 PM

Ron Rivera said he will no longer allow his team to bring bats onto the field before games.

Rivera also denied that any Carolina Panthers directed homophobic slurs at Odell Beckham Jr. before Sunday's game.

Rivera announced his new policy regarding the baseball bats Tuesday, one day after photos and videos surfaced of star cornerback Josh Norman and practice squad player Marcus Ball carrying a black bat on the field during warm-ups.

"[The NFL] is the 'No Fun League' for a reason," Rivera said.

Giants players on the field reportedly heard Panthers defensive players directing anti-gay slurs and expletives at Beckham before the game.

Panthers Swung Baseball Bats Pregame Taunting Odell Beckham

Dec 21, 2015 3:14 PM

At least one official from the Carolina Panthers, and possibly more, carried black baseball bats onto the field before Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

The Panthers were motioning with them towards Odell Beckham Jr.

Josh Norman grabbed the black bat and was swinging it in pregame warmups.

Beckham, according to a source, felt threatened and helped put him in his aggressive frame of mind.

The Panthers have carried bats onto the field for pregame of nearly every game this season.

Josh Norman: Odell Beckham Should Be Punished For Actions

Dec 21, 2015 11:44 AM

Josh Norman says Odell Beckham Jr. should have been ejected for the shots Beckham took at him.

Calling Beckham a "ballerina," Norman was particularly incensed that Beckham took a deliberate shot to his helmet in the second half. Norman said he hopes the league punishes Beckham.

"The guy ran 15 yards down the field, dead-on collision,'' Norman said after Carolina improved to 14-0 with a 38-35 victory. "The play was all the way to the left side. He came back and was hunting, and it was just, like, malicious in every way.

"I hope the league office gets a chance to review the film and see what they can do, because players like that don't deserve to be in the game,'' Norman said. "I mean, it's ridiculous."

They repeatedly got into it, shoving and wrestling with each other. Beckham was flagged for three unnecessary roughness penalties, twice on the same drive in the third quarter. Norman also drew an unnecessary roughness penalty on the same drive.

Panthers Unsure If They'll Chase Perfect Record

Dec 14, 2015 10:38 PM

Ron Rivera hasn't decided how the Carolina Panthers will approach the final three games of the season as the possibility of a perfect season remains a possibility.

“I really don’t know what we are going to do if we are faced with that,” Rivera said from Charlotte on Sunday. “All along I have told our guys we are taking each week one at a time. But if we get to that point, then I will have a decision to make. It obviously isn't an easy decision. I remember back in 2005 when I was on coach [Lovie] Smith’s staff in Chicago and we had a bye going into the playoffs. We rested guys at the end, and we lost our first game to Carolina. After that game I think some of the guys on our team felt that maybe they were a little rusty because they had sat out. I have always thought about that.”

“It would be silly to say we don't want to do that,” said Greg Olsen, “but we will see what the future holds when the time comes. All season we have thought about one week at a time. We are going to prepare like we’re going to play every week. Then the powers that be will tell us if we’re playing or not and how much we’re going to play.”

Josh Norman Method Acts Being Action Movie Star On Field

Dec 1, 2015 8:09 PM

Josh Norman has become one of the NFL's best cornerbacks this season for the still undefeated Carolina Panthers.

Norman takes the field pretending to be a different Hollywood action star in every game. Norman's approach is almost like a method actor.

“It comes down to what movie I’m watching that week and the night before,” Norman said.

“For the Tampa Bay game, I was Maximus,” he said, referencing the Roman soldier played by Russell Crowe in “Gladiator,” the 2001 Best Picture winner. “When I do this, my job is to go out there and be that guy. With Maximus, it’s to go out there and win the crowd, win the day. That’s what he did.”

Norman has a penchant for sword-and-sandal epics like "Gladiator" and "300".

After snagging a key interception in Carolina’s 27-22 win in September over the Saints, Norman could be heard repeating the character’s famous maxim: “There are no pacts between lions and men.”
